You are correct, and my pistol may have to save my life or the life of a family member, why would anybody abuse a tool you may need to extract yourself from a bad situation

I have had my P-14 since 1995, it's showing years of use and I know a 1911 is a tough design, but I would NEVER throw it on the ground, no way would I have gone along with that part of the training
