Re: Colt M4 Accessories
Edit for me previous post - it's the X300 Ultra that has the 500 lumens. I don't think I'd put one on a pistol as I OFTEN use my gunlight, sometimes indoors, and I think it would kill your night vision in a dark building.

Re: Colt M4 Accessories
As a streamlight guy, this is odd, but I'm a huge fan of the newer Surefire X300...500 lumens. Might be overkill in a largely indoor role, but its on my short list.clarionite wrote:Thanks everyone. It's given me quite a bit to think about. I'm going to take a look at the slings mentioned. I need to get a good light. And I believe I'll set aside a kitty for an Eotech and magnifier. I looked at one at Top Brass in San Antonio this week, and I liked it. It's a little pricier than I had inteded, but what hasn't been?
Also, for most applications, I find Aimpoint > Eotech, but this is usually considered subjective.

Re: Colt M4 Accessories
I like the new Rainier product over the BCM, though only slightly.

Might check it out before you pull the trigger on it.

Re: Colt M4 Accessories
Having a qual rail enables a user to quickly reconfigure and redeploy the weapon in the case of changing roles. With the variety of QD components, the components can be moved along the full length of the rail, and not just the small areas where short rail panels are attached.
A good example is 3 gunning, where some stages may benefit from a different light, different type of sights (offsets for example) or different size or type of handgrip.

Re: Colt M4 Accessories
I have the DD version. Love it, but I'm not convinced that quad rails are application-less.TheDude wrote:cajunautoxer wrote:Also forget about a quad rail. I go for modular one'No reason for quad rails now days. The modular ones make much more sense. Look at the Troy VTAC ones.

Re: Colt M4 Accessories
The sights I LIKE are $300 flip up offset sights. The ones I have are $80 magpuls because they work and are light. All things being equal, I'd run a higher power main scope with a micro t-1 backup.

Re: Colt M4 Accessories
What do you need? What is your style and use for the rifle? I use mine for work so I added a longer 12" rail (gotta shave or replace gas block) as a I grip the gun long and with my palm at the 9 o clock position and thumb wrapped around like holding a water house.
A light and a sight are must haves for me. BUIS are required by policy, so they are there. Figure out your sling system - I changed from single points to 2 points, so I have the appropriate attachment points installed. A stock that allows for a proper cheek weld or sight picture is nice if you're not weight concious. I hate the A2 grip so a BCM gunfighter, or Magpul MIAD is nice.
With that rail you could add a grip, either a magpul AFG or something upright like a Larue FUG. On my grip I run a pressure switch for my light.
My intended role may be different than yours. What do you plan on doing with it?
Also - some of the best advice I've gotten and given is don't setup your kit for something you only may encounter infrequently (ie building a rig around off hand shooting).
