One last point - I would have to agree that the right company, offering the right services and having enough clients, could be profitable. Maybe I am nitpicking, but CHLPP states that they are a "legal service." Nowhere on their website do they ever mention the word "insurance" or "insurance plan." I believe that insurance companies operate under a whole different set of rules and regulations than a "legal service."HKUSP45C wrote:I'll add one last point ... this is an insurance plan that is amazingly profitable. Virtually none of us will ever actually need our weapons for self defense. The few of us that may end up using them will have a statistically insignificant number that actually pull the trigger. Of that minute group a smaller still sub-sret will actually kill their aggressor.

Excellent Advice. I wish you the best during your upcoming "ordeal."t1eyer wrote:Now, I'm far from being an alarmist or a "nit picker" after the fact, but had I had the foresight to have a plan my ordeal would have been easier on my nerves and saved me a lot of uneeded anxiety. I believe I did nothing wrong but apparently the SAPD doesn't share my belief and this is going to a long, exhaustive, and expensive journey.
Have a plan!

Thank you for being so gracious.HKUSP45C wrote:I stand corrected and acknowledge my ignorance. Thank you for clearing that up.
This is a true story: I was in court one day when a defendant asked the presiding judge to appoint him a public defender. The judge asked the defendant, who was wearing a suit, how he got to court that day. The defendant responded that he drove his car.
The judge told him that if he had enough money to wear a such a nice suit and drive his own car, he could sell them and hire an attorney.

Re: I do carry and just wanted to have a very good lawyer
This is not true. This what the Supreme Court ruled [emphasis mine]:HKUSP45C wrote:Last time I checked, public defenders are available to anyone who asks for them to take the case. Regardless of their financial status.
The person in custody must, prior to interrogation, be clearly informed that he or she has the right to remain silent, and that anything the person says may be used against that person in court; the person must be clearly informed that he or she has the right to consult with an attorney and to have that attorney present during questioning, and that, if he or she is indigent, an attorney will be provided at no cost to represent him or her.

Do you have a cite or specific anecdotal circumstance that validates your claim? Or, were you just stating your opinion?
This is the direct quote from CHLPP. It says they will retain an attorney until there is a dismissal or no-bill. If the charges are not dismissed and/or you are indicted they don't cover your defense. Statements and/or promises posted on a website are not a legal contract. IANAL, but that is my non-legal opinion.Directly from CHLPP Website wrote:CHLPP will retain an experienced qualified local criminal defense attorney where you were arrested. The attorney CHLPP retains will pursue the member's case until there is a dismissal, no-bill by a Grand Jury (in those states which have a Grand Jury system), and the return of all your seized firearm(s) and related property. With CHLPP there are NO deductibles, co-pays, or limits. CHLPP members pay nothing out of their own pockets.
