Greyhound & Trailways have (or did, I haven't been in a bus station in decades) lockers of various sizes.

At one time, you would put your luggage in one, put in a quarter or whatever depending on the size locker you chose, close the door, turn and pull out the key and take the key with you. If I recall correctly a quarter (or more) was good for 24 hours or you would put in more quarters for a longer storage time.

How secure are they? I don't know. Fairly I guess, as we used them a lot and never had one broken into. If I had no other choice, I guess I'd use an old beat up suitcase and store them in that, put it in the locker and go.

Good luck!

P.S. The guys are just razzing you about not taking your gun to...not trolling.
I would want to be carrying in the few Greyhound & Trailways bus stations that I have been to. In my experience, they are all in pretty bad areas.

This or leave it with a gunsmith, but DON'T take a firearm or ammunition into Mexico. The penalties are WAAAY too onerous!

Box of bullets could force Vidor man to serve out 5-year Mexican jail term

If you don't want to go into Mexico without a firearm, then don't go to Mexico.

According to Watkins, 30 Americans currently are jailed in Nuevo Laredo, 11 of them on charges similar to Bean's. Eight still await verdict and sentencing.
The article stated that the Vidor man was found guilty of smuggling the bullets. I wonder if that is correct.

I wonder if the smuggling has a higher penalty that for possession of the ammunition. I hope he can get transferred to the U.S. and get out of jail quickly.

I wonder if his arrest in Mexico is counted in the U.S. as conviction.

djbeckett wrote:I'll answer why anyone would go to Mexico: it's a great experience. Being there is exciting. the goods they have are $$$. what a variety of stuff! Cuban cigars, OH! Mexican plates, my wife loves to buy them. Silver for next to nothing. curious of every kind. The people bend over backwards to help. The American senior citizens out number the younger Texans.

ANYTHING YOU WANT!!!!
I don't agree with the ANYTHING YOU WANT!!! part, but it is fun. I haven't been there in a long time and I know people are concerned about their safety and security, so I can't offer any opinion on that.

I have gone there numerous times. The people are friendly and helpful. IMO, the tourists from the U.S. side is the only reason this town can flourish. This time of year there are many visitors from the north and northeast who go to enjoy the weather. I enjoyed eating in the couple of "high-end" restaurants and shopping at the curio stores. I never did see any high quality leather goods that I was interested in purchasing. My favorite store was the duty free shop where I could buy a bottle of high-end booze for about $15 and a carton of cigarettes for $11. I am sure the prices are higher now.

It might be more costly than finding a pawn shop or FFL, but you can be certain that your handgun will be in good hands.

If you pay my hotel and meals for the week I will stay in South Padre and store your handgun for you while you are in Mexico.

If you include Bill and me in your budget, we'll even take it to the range, check it for accuracy, function fire it, torture test it, and then clean the gun for you while you're in Mexico.

Welcome to the forum.
As long as we get separate rooms, I am okay with this. :smilelol5:

:iagree: Nice pouch.

What I have done is locked the gun in the room safe and put out the do not disturb sign. When I get back I can tell if the room has been entered. I realize the management has a master key, but they wouldn't know if anything was in the safe unless some one entered the room.

More the duty free store and the pharmacies. I could also get a good hair cut for $2.00 and be a big spender and leave the barber a $3.00 tip.

Re: PISTOL STORAGE WHILE ON VACATION?

For those of you who don't know, Nuevo Progresso is border town. I have been there many times, although not for some years. The town is within a very short walking distance of the U.S. border. For most of my visits I paid a couple of dollars and parked in the lot on the Texas side. I walked over the bridge, did my shopping a walked back. All of the stores are on the main street as well as a couple of nice restaurants.

Unless you are buying something you can't carry or are disabled, there is no real advantage for driving into Mexico. If you do drive into Mexico, even a short distance, buy auto insurance in the U.S. before you go over.

I don't know how to be more clear, but locking a gun in a glove compartment does change the fact that it is illegal to have a gun in Mexico. As I stated in my earlier post just having an empty shell casing is enough to be arrested in Mexico.

You stated in your earlier post.

If you are not afraid of the Mexican authorities, don't get on their bad side by breaking their laws. Bringing a firearm or ammunition into Mexico could be the biggest mistake of your life.

I plan to lock the pistol in the glovebox. No one has commented on that method. :txflag:
If you park on the Texas side and walk into Progresso, that would be okay as long as no body breaks into your car.

:iagree:

DO NOT bring a gun into MX... Not even if it's taken apart and cast in amber.
I have used an in-car lock box for gun storage on vacation. Something like this... " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It comes in several sizes, the smallest of which can fit most compacts/mid-sze autoloaders and cost me ~$20 at academy.
:iagree: :iagree: :iagree: I can not emphasize this enough. Even an empty shell casing can land you in jail.
