Re: 60 day wait time
That line reminds me of the old teacher's griping at the very end of Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall.endigo wrote:They are doing more than an FBI backfround check.
They are checking with the local counties where you live and work. They are checking that you don't have any outstanding student loans. They are making sure that your child support and alimony is up to date.
How can you have any pudding if you haven't eaten your meat? It all amounts to a "Waiting Period" for a CHL.
I hear ya', dude. I realize that DPS has a few databases to consult, I just don't see why it should take them longer than two or three weeks to do so...unless they are, in fact, severely understaffed.

Not to sound like a broken record here but the processing times do seem to fluctuate wildly, with no rhyme or reason.
I can only presume that the CHL section of DPS suffers from a serious manpower shortage. I recall my CHL course instructor (Mark from Top Gun) saying that there are only 3 ladies in Austin that handle all of the CHL applications for the state!!! That's a ridiculously low number for a state the size of Texas.
I still can't get my head around this 60 day CHL processing period. Whenever I purchase a gun, that FFL background check only takes 10 minutes over the phone.
