I'm pursuing a degree in my 50s using my military benefits, there is no way I am going to fight this battle. For me, it would mean all sorts of administrative issues, including expulsion, etc.
Now, if I were a parent I might treat it like I do when I go to the movies, etc. (march sharply and "smuggly" by such signs with my nose in the air).
It comes down to the old adage: "Would you rather be right, or would you rather be happy."
I feel you. Were it me, I would probably carry in my backpack in a pocket that I wouldn't keep anything else in. No chance of it being noticed. No crime being committed, obviously. Not as readily accessed as carrying on your person, but better than nothing at all. No different than a woman carrying in her purse. Or you could carry a purse. Nobody on a college campus these days would even bat an eye.
