Oklahoma is a hodgepodge of jurisdictional issues when it comes to tribal laws. As a general rule of thumb, any time you're on a state or U.S. highway, you're good. If you pull off the road within the boundaries of a tribal nation, you're subject to their laws -- except their laws often don't apply to non-members.

It's crazy and confusing, and would be a lot simpler if they truly were sovereign, but they're not. They're interdependent, not independent.

I have read that it's even crazier in the Four Corners area, where you not only have multiple state boundaries, but you have multiple tribal boundaries, and the tribal laws sometimes change when you cross a state line within tribal land.

You'll get the quickest answer from the Broken Bow office of Choctaw law enforcement: 580-286-3799. Of course, you also run the risk of horribly inaccurate information, same as you ever face when asking a police officer for legal advice.
