Just to clarify, local LE doesn't give consent for CRFFLs. When you apply, you are required to send a copy to your local chief LEO, but that is advisory in nature. The CLEO can then contact the ATF if they have information as to why the applicant should not receive the license. ATF will consider any disqualifying information. But, your local PD doesn't have to approve for you to get a CRFFL.

When I renew my CRFFL, I just include a cover letter to the chief of police: "Hey, Doug. It's that time again. Drop by if you want to go shooting." :grin:
