Back when we shot .38s loaded with wadcutters for our annual qualification, it was typical for the 3- and 7- yard portions to produce a nice clean hole about 3" in size, right in the center of the target.

It was always rumored, but never confirmed, that some of our "perfect" scoring shooters had a habit of making such a hole, then just aiming for the berm when shooting from 15 and 25 yards.

Like I said, it was never confirmed. But when we switched to 9mm (no more wadcutters!), they stopped getting perfect scores. ;-)
