Re: "Waiting Room"

3 of us seniors took the course and applied for an LTC at approximately the same time

01/09/2016 - CHL-100 @Southern Guns, David Laviolette CHL Instructor
01/11/2016 7:25 PM - This email confirms you have submitted an online application
01/12/2016 11:36 AM - We have received your License To Carry supporting documents. Please allow up to six weeks for processing. [CHL-100]
01/15/2016 4:44 PM - IdentoGo Service Confirmation - TX Personal Review
01/15/2016 4:44 PM - IdentoGo Service Confirmation - TX License to Carry
01/21/2016 - Received Certification of Criminal History [No criminal history] (TX Personal Review copy)
04/06/2016 Received letter from DPS, course instructor's license expired
04/07/2016 Mailed in new CHL-100 (dated 4/2/2016), mine sans letter, the other two with letter
04/11/2016 RSD received my new CHL-100
05/06/2016 Web site changed for the other two
05/06/2016 One received his license
05/09/2016 the other received his license
05/18/2016 Web site changed for me
05/19/2016 I received my license

YAY - all three of us have received our licenses - I give up my seat in this thread -

The only tip I would offer future applicants is to mail in information rather than apply online - as I've read through this thread, it seems that those who mailed in their information received their licenses several weeks ahead of us that applied online -

Lastly, a huge thanks to the folks on this thread - y'all sure helped reduce my anxiety over what seems like a forever wait -

Re: "Waiting Room"

Three of us took the course together and our submittals were all with in a day or two -
1/12/2016 11:36 AM - We have received your License To Carry supporting documents. Please allow up to six weeks for processing.
1/15/2016 4:44 PM - IdentoGo Service Confirmation - TX Personal Review
1/15/2016 4:44 PM - IdentoGo Service Confirmation - TX License to Carry
1/21/2016 - Certification of Criminal History [No criminal history] (TX Personal Review copy)
4/07/2016 Received mail notification from DPS that CHL Instructor's license had expired - resubmitted a new CHL-100 dated 4/2/2016

4/13/2016 at 11:55 am I called and managed to get into the wait cue - after a 50 minute wait finally spoke to very nice lady - I was concerned that I had mailed my new CHL-100 in without the reject letter - RSD received my new CHL-100 on 4/11/2016 - she said that should be no problem and noted my account - she did say that they were still swamped -

The other two folks that took the course with me sent their new CHL-100's with the reject letter -

5/6/2016 The web site changed for the other two that mailed the new CHL-100 in with the RSD request letter - One received his license later that same day (5/6), the other received his license today (5/9)

Mine is still no change -

4-02-2016 holbrla: "Three of us took the course together and our submittals were all with in a day or two - one of us just received a letter from DPS stating the the instructor's license had expired - apparently what happened was that the instructor put his LTC number on our CHL100's instead of his instructor's number - back to the Southern Guns (the gun shop that hosted the course) to obtain updated CHL100's for resubmittal - "

Not much exciting to report - on 4/11/2016, 3:30 to 4:30 time frame, I unsuccessfully tried 11 times to get through voice mail - on 4/13/2016 at 11:55 am I managed to get into the wait cue - after a 50 minute wait finally spoke to very nice lady - I was concerned that I had mailed my new CHL-100 in without the reject letter - RSD received my new CHL-100 on 4/11/2016 - she said that should be no problem and noted my account - she did say that they were still swamped -

However, she indicated that instructor's licenses expire on the 2nd odd year - and what happened to us three was not unusual - I think the gun shop fed us a line that the instructor put down his LTC number instead of his instructor's number - what he did was renew his expired license and reissued a CHL-100 as if we took the course on 4/2/2016 -

Still waiting and it looks lke a long wait - LOL

Re: "Waiting Room"

Interesting undated post on DPS website:

http://www.dps.texas.gov/rsd/chl/applicantreminder.htm

Potential delays can be avoided by submitting complete information

Due to an increased volume of applications for a license to carry a handgun (LTC) in recent months, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is advising applicants to closely follow LTC application guidelines and to ensure they submit a fully-completed application including all supporting documentation.

During the three-month period from December 2015 through February 2016, DPS has received approximately 136,000 LTC application submissions compared to approximately 57,000 over the same time period the year prior – representing a 139 percent increase.

In response to the increased volume of applications, DPS has increased staffing strength (hiring additional personnel and initiating an overtime project involving multiple shifts, seven days a week) and resources to help ensure compliance with the statutory processing time frames for original and renewal applications.

By statute, DPS has up to 60 days to issue an original LTC, and 45 days to issue a renewal license. However, it is imperative that applicants understand that these time periods are calculated from the time a fully-completed application and supporting documents are received by the department.
