The left reminds me of a Ray Bradberry story I once read about a future world where the government had eliminated all that nasty competition by making everyone equal.
It was by Kurt Vonnegut, and it was called "Harrison Bergeron". Great story. The federal cabinet level position in charge of making sure everyone was equal was called "the Handicapper General".
