Yes she has the portable cylinders but they are only good for a couple of hours and really too heavy for her to carry around the house. Now, just a couple of months ago, we went with the Indogen that has a rechargeable portable. But it’s only good for 2.5 hours a battery. With the time we were without power along with the large area that had no power, we had nowhere else to go.
We also had just stocked our freezers with a side of beef and a whole hog. I am too old to unload all of that meat into oh, my pickup bed and then back again.
Plus, I was able to pull a cord to my neighbors house and give them heat
Have you had any issues with the Ford generator? I see one advertised at Home Dopey model FG1105OPBE for $1,184.00 thats gas and liquid propane that looks like a pretty good option. How many hours do you have on it if i may ask?
Sorry, I just saw this. No we have not had any issues at all. I have 130 hours on it and have changed the oil once.
Its ok...All is well. I bought a Westinghouse Wgen9500DF a couple of months ago. Haven't had to use it yet. I filled it with oil and ran it for about 15 minutes just to try it out. Everything works just fine.

tomneal wrote: Thu Jun 24, 2021 8:27 pm Are you going to use the generator to power the house or just use extension cords?
I plan to use it with cords until next year. At that time i will get it wired for whole house and maybe buy another one to power other items.

Re: Portable Generators

Good job Tom Neal. I bought a new window a/c unit from Home Depot last weekend for emergency use. Haven't even taken it out of the box. MY generator should run it plus a few other things if I should lose power some day. I got an LG one ton unit.

Re: Portable Generators

$1,700.00 seems a bit much to run just one item.

Re: Portable Generators

You guys are pros at this generator stuff. I wouldn't know how to wire up the home heating system to one. Is it hard to repair or replace the carb in one of those things?

Re: Portable Generators

RPBrown wrote: Fri Feb 19, 2021 3:11 pm I have a couple of them for jobsite use. They work good for that except for a couple of things. (1) They don't like to start in cold weather and (2) you have to have the carburetor cleaned or replaces about every 300 hours.
I just keep a couple of carbs in stock for immediate replacement.
Also, for some reason, some home gas furnaces don't work with them. My furnace at home won't but I also have a Ford 12000 watt for home use that my furnace will work with. I can't, nor can the furnace manufacture explain why.
Hummm. Main reason for me to buy one is for cold weather and 300 hours is not very long either. Was the Ford generator considerably more expensive? Any issues with it?

Portable Generators

Just wondering if anyone is familiar with Harbor Freights Predator generator 9000/7250. Cost is 750.00 and seems to have most of the things you would want in a generator except its not dual powered. Only gas powered. Supposedly it is a Honda generator clone. Sold out right now but expect more in about two weeks.
