Most people I teach in the LTC class are aware of the importance of the subject matter taught but do not understand the investment in time they must make to adequately study and become subject matter experts in the laws and academics of gun carry. And there are too many who just want to get the class over with. Then then there is the idea that this material can be properly taught in 4 hours!

This all contributes to a generally less than academically proficient licensee population. When you add to this the fact that the vast majority of licensees do not go out and practice and drill on the defensive use of the gun it is concerning.

You've described my brother-in-law to a "T" In his defense though, with every visit we have with him and his wife, we try to share new things we have learned ourselves, though it's getting harder to convince him to go to the range since he's become self conscious about his shooting ability. A game of "battleship" didn't go his way when he played against my husband and it definitely hit his pride. He's taken the LTC class but not finished his paperwork or done his fingerprints. I've made it my goal to get him there by the end of the year! I've considered asking him and his wife to join me in taking more training classes. I'm hoping that will help give him more confidence and spur his interest again.
