My laminate floor is from ikea. GREAT price, and better than any pattern I saw at Lowes or Home Depot for 2x the price. 15 year warranty too.

U have to understand, Ikea is a Swedish company. My mother is from Denmark, and I have been to Scandinavia a few times. The stores there do not give you bags. People bring their own cloth bags, or you pay for plastic/paper bags (whichever they have). That was back in the 1980s when I was last there, and my mother told me it was always that way. So, that issue really doesn't originate from an environmental movement. It is a cultural thing.

As for the store - 1/2 my house is from Ikea. My entire laminate floor, my bedroom set, my child's nursery, my tv stand and several other things.
