I have used my CHL once for buying a gun and it did not save much time. But, if the phones, electricity or instant check center is down, you can still make the purchace if you have a CHL. Also in an emergency situation where you are evacuating such as with Rita and Katrina, if you have contact with a Peace Officer, I think a CHL would be a very nice thing to have. I don't want him deciding if I am "traveling" or not, I want to be "prequalified"
