"The Trooper who ordered her to conduct the search was just fired."
Not prosecuted - just fired?
They should BOTH be serving time.
When I was in the Army they taught us that we could refuse to follow an unlawful order per the UCMJ.
I was only following orders excuse is no defense...she could of refused to follow such an obvious unlawful order, but she didn't.

Re: DPS performing roadside cavity searches!
I'm a staunch supporter of LEO's, but if they go bad, they're criminals with badges and guns...

Re: DPS performing roadside cavity searches!
Just being fired isn't justice for those they preyed upon.

Re: DPS performing roadside cavity searches!
Only fired - not prosecuted because 'she was only following orders/policy'?
If her actions were carried out as per orders/policy are higher going to roll?
Or, is this a case where DPS thought they'd find out how far they could push the public...?

Re: DPS performing roadside cavity searches!
Have roadside body cavity searches been a daily DPS investigative method and is only now coming to light?
If the female DPS officer is found innocent of wrong doing can we ALL expect that any and all LEO's have the authority to perform roadside cavity searches if they so choose as part of their investigation?
If so, they better have plenty o'lawyers!

Re: DPS performing roadside cavity searches!
Since when are roadside body CAVITY searches justified methods for detecting weed?
We're talking marijuana, not some kind of weapons grade biological awful or some other deeply criminal thing...
Suffering succotash - weed is now legal (to grow, smoke, buy, sell) in some states. So, does this particular substance rate that high on the scale of law in Texas that body cavity searches make sense? Wouldn't searching the vehicle and clothing be adequate...?
If not, then perhaps far more severe investigative efforts need be made when really serious law breaking suspects come into the picture. You know, like in a dark room, a low wattage bare bulb is the only illumination hanging over the suspects head and rubber hoses make an appearance...harkening back to the good ole days of law enforcement when punks got what they deserved and couldn't do a darn thing about it. Roadside or jail side, you Joe Citizen better keep in line - or else!
Yes, I'm being a bit facetious, but not that much considering how the SUSPECTS were treated...

Re: DPS performing roadside cavity searches!
Forgive me if I'm being naive, as I couldn't get the video: Couldn't the folks searched refused the road side search and request they be taken to jail or another facility for the search - if indeed a cavity search was demanded? Or, was there no choice - do it willingly citizen or be forced to do it roadside?
Certainly, I understand the outrage if in fact a road side cavity search was illegally forced and performed. If so, the legal repercussions will be forthcoming with a thunderclap...
In the mean time, no need to paint ALL law enforcement as martial law enthusiasts in waiting...
C'mon folks, one bad apple doesn't... (if indeed that's the case)
