Most people will not be able to determine what the 'bump' is. However, if it very prominent, you might look at finding another holster that will turn the butt more toward your body. Many IWB holsters will do this better than an OWB, as they put the gun closer into the body.

It really depends on what is not concealing very well on your 229. Carrying IWB will hide anything below the waistband of your pants, so if your shirt rides up and doesn't go above the waistline, then your covered.

If you are talking about the but of the gun protruding and causing a bump in your shirt, then IWB probably won't be any better unless the IWB holster turns the butt of the gun inward more toward your body.
