philbo wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 10:30 amBut wait, there's more. Now tRump is wanting more troops to the border (where they are legally prohibited from engaging in police activites) and suggesting they have the authority to shoot anyone throwing rocks at them.
Good! The military shouldn't engage in police activities in the USA nor "police actions" overseas. :clapping:

First and foremost, the military should defend the country from foreign invasion. The military may fight them "over there" so we don't have to face them here, but if they get here, fight the invaders on the border. If they overrun the borders (e.g. WW2 Eastern Front) the job of the military is to push them back. Kill or drive out the invaders.

That is the purpose of the military.

Thunderbolt_47 wrote: Sat Sep 29, 2018 12:59 pmI voted Red in 2016 as I had been doing since 2000, and I thought that the stories of Trump following Russian interests was nonsense peddled by Democrats who couldn't admit to themselves that they had chosen one of the most unpleasant candidates in American history and lost badly because of that, but that's an article from a Russian real estate company that says that Trump's reforms made it very interesting for Russians to buy real estate in the USA... I honestly don't know what to think about it, and would have liked to hear your opinions.
Where does the article from a Russian real estate company mention Trump? :headscratch

It mentions the Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement (MCAA) went into effect in 2017. True enough, but the treaty dates back to 2014 when Obummer was POTUS. We weren't signatories to the MCAA in 2014-2016 and we're still not signatories to the MCAA. There's no "reforms" inherent in lack of change.

Please realize that this is a complete, 100% unadulterated non sequitur. Morons quote this and take it seriously. Not normal people.
Is WaPo saying crime rates are up in Mexico because more Mexicans are returning to Mexico?

philip964 wrote:I'm suspecting they were originally going to have a larger child tax credit. But someone said hey lets let one of our members be a hero. So they reduced it and allowed Rubio to grandstand and make some favorable press. He may be their 2020, go to candidate if Trump doesn't or can't run, especially if they let him introduce the new DACA legislation.
The child tax credit is still $2,000. Rubio was holding out to increase the percentage of the child tax credit that's refundable. If you know what that means, think about that for a minute.

If you're not sure what it means, a "refundable" tax credit is like a gun "buyback" where the politicians' words don't mean the same as they do in plain English. In a gun buyback, the government is paying money to buy guns that the government never owned in the first place. In a refundable tax credit, the government is paying money to somebody above and beyond a full refund (real English) of everything they paid in income tax in the first place. It's a handout, not a refund, plain and simple.

So the real story is Rubio demanded a bigger handout for the 47% (according to Mitt) that don''t pay income tax.

parabelum wrote:"For many years, people have been talking about getting rid of debt ceiling altogether, and there are a lot of good reasons to do that,” Trump told reporters. “It complicates things, it’s really not necessary"

Huh? Eliminate debt ceiling altogether? Complicates things? Not necessary?

You think you could run your business or home like this? Where will the dadgum money come from with unlimited debt ceiling?
You couldn't run your business or your personal finances like that without declaring bankruptcy periodically to get a clean slate. Maybe that's Trump's plan to deal with the national debt. He did that as a business leader a few times.
