The texas legislature put in a clause last session giving CHL holders civil immunity (Chas chime in if I am wrong!!) in the lawful use of deadly force. Being an ex cop, and still having many many friends that still are, There is a not a cop walking the planet or a DA that had a CHL holder internvened properly in this case and shot the BG would file charges on you. Yes your case would go to a grand jury as do all homicide cases, but you can believe that that would be no billed in a minute.
When all of you went through the CHL course defense of a third party I hope was discussed. Granted being an ex cop, with SWAT experience I have a little bit more training, the scenario is no different. I hope I will not offend with my next statement, if being sued is going to stop you from intervening in a justified event, I suggest you leave the firearm at home and mail your CHL back to the state. BY intervening I dont mean shooting, though if it comes to that you have to respond, intervention of force, that being drawing the weapon and giving a command to stop, may prevent the issue from escalating.
In this case had a someone been present willing to intervene from what I have seen on the video, draw and fire would have been the only option. The BG exited his vehicle, approached aggressively and stabbed the victim within a few seconds.
As far as the class goes I mentioned I am calling a buddy of mine with DPS monday and check on what we can do. I will keep you posted. I have already cussed and discussed with others who want it to. Lots to do plus working 70 hours a week, assisting on the safety team at our church and preparing for a mission trip...

Re: Reason to keep gun on your person, not in car.
One poster asked what would have happend had a CHL been nearby and shot the BG? The police would have bought you a steak dinner. Remember the use of deadly force is authorized in defense of third person when that person's life is in immenent danger.
Now the original post was reason to keep your gun on your person not in the car. This is true. Also, and I am probably repeating what has been said already, you have to be aware of your surroundings, and not let anyone you dont know within 3-5 feet of you. On the video the suspect exited his vehicle and approached her quickly and aggressively. You should recognize that as an aggressive act and at minimum retreat and announce to get away get away! If that doesnt work or if at that point you recognize he has a weapon it is time to save the taxpayer a ton of money.
Situational awareness is key. Having been in LE for 15 years, (ex cop) I never exit the car until I have taken in the surroundings, I make eye contact with everyone that approaches me and I watch the hands not the face, I never enter a retail outlet without first looking inside and taking in who is in there, after entering I watch who comes in, what is their actions?
It would be neat if an advanced course on survival techinques were offered to CHL holders. hmmm perhaps a business idea>??! Anyway, the short message to long one, stay alert!
