Re: Can Beto O’Rourke really beat Ted Cruz?
Mods, since its relevant can we re-name this thread "Can Beto really beat Donald Trump?"
I have a feeling that many of the points made in this thread will wind up applying to the next election.
(Sadly) my money is on Kamila, Beto and Bernie winding up as the three main players at the end, with Beto edging out the other two a few months into the primaries. I'm betting Beto 'clinches' on or around the Indiana primary but before the Arkansas, Kentucky, and Oregon primaries... And that the Dem convention sticks with the expected result.
Also concerning, Trump is trying to stick a label on Beto but his first attempt was talking about hand movements... Not terribly powerful stuff. I think he might have lost his edge. "Drunken Irishman" has a nice ring to it.
Adding on to above, Kennedy was very conservative by today's libs standards.

Re: Can Beto O’Rourke really beat Ted Cruz?
Personally I would like to see a law that all tobacco, marijuana, alcohol, voting and the draft be legally required to apply at the same age. Be it 18, 21 (my preference) or 25.WTR wrote: ↑Sat Nov 10, 2018 9:45 pmActually you are correct. Look at the insurance actuarry tabled. Rates are lowered at 25. According to science, the brain is not fully mature until about 25 years of age. Young kids just don’t think as well as adults.
There is no reason you should be drafted but not able to vote. There is no reason you should be able to vote but not buy alcohol. Essentially they are all constitutional rights (in the sense that government must recognize the rights of a full-bodied citizen) and should all apply equally, as well as buying firearms.
Most people forget but students and minors have several parts of the BOR curtailed for them (free speech, to some extend, freedom of association, to some extent, due process, to some extent). Once a minor become "not a minor" or a full-fledged citizen or legal person in our country, they need to have all the rights and responsibilities that entails. Don't pick and choose based on whats convenient for that voting year.
If you are not mature enough to buy a pistol and carry until you are 21, then you are not mature enough to vote. Make all ages requirements the same...

This system sounds GREAT. I wish the whole state would go that way...srothstein wrote: ↑Sun Oct 28, 2018 10:34 pm I like the new voting machine we used in Caldwell county. You get blank paper for a ballot. You insert it into a computer that then shows the various options. You vote however you want and then the computer prints the ballot on the piece of paper with your votes. You take the ballot over to another computer that is a scanner. It reads the ballot and computes the votes. This way there is a paper ballot in case anyone wants a full recount. The paper is clearly printed and readable. No hanging chads or partial markings to be interpreted.
You do have to be careful when you vote before the paper is printed, but you get to verify it twice - once in the voting machine and once after it is printed.

The CNN Townhall was a booby trap set for Ted. Just consider the Stoneman Douglas town hall.flechero wrote: ↑Tue Oct 09, 2018 8:30 pmI hate for Ted to give him an hour of saying anything he wants, uncontested and unchecked.philip964 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 09, 2018 6:46 pm https://www.star-telegram.com/news/poli ... 32670.html
Beto will have an hour to him self on CNN, as Ted declined to come on CNN.
I get that it's cnn, but he's giving bo a lot of free lee way in this race. I hope Ted knows something that we don't because I'm a bit nervous.
Kudos to Ted for not falling for the trap. I guarantee the whole thing would have been scripted.
It is funny though that the press is trying to set this up as Ted refusing a debate. He hasn't refused any debates (though Beto has), but the way they are reporting it is as if this was going to be a debate, not a town hall.

Will "Beto" even be on the ballot? I mean, that's just a nickname, right? Won't a ballot be required to have his legal name on it?
How many people who intend to vote for "Beto" will go into the voting booth and say: "Who's this O'Rourke guy? And where's Beto?!"
Take note of the date and time as proof of the three year requirements...
I'm gonna win 2022 in a landslide.

They have a legal duty to provide threat assessment regarding the functions they oversee. If that threat assessment includes the reasonable risk that a pot-shot may be taken at a protectee, then they have the legal authority (and responsibility) to ban all firearms.RogueUSMC wrote: ↑Thu Sep 20, 2018 10:30 amThey do not have a 'legal duty' to prohibit...PriestTheRunner wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 4:06 pmSS has a legal duty to prohibit, though I don't know if that extends to all of their protect-ees or just the POTUS. I didn't misread the cite- you misread my quote.flechero wrote: ↑Thu Aug 30, 2018 5:18 pmI never said that there were no R millennials. And my inference was that young dems probably haven't thought about a state income tax and that was my point. There are some attractive pieces to socialism for younger people, especially if they haven't yet figured out how it's paid for.PriestTheRunner wrote: ↑Thu Aug 30, 2018 4:40 pm
Man it would be great if people would start realizing that 'millennials' are very equally distributed and white male millennials actually prefer R over D by 9%. Please avoid wide-brushing vast swaths of people. Source
Either way, you misread your cite:
The online survey of more than 16,000 registered voters ages 18 to 34 shows their support for Democrats over Republicans for Congress slipped by about 9 percentage points over the past two years, to 46 percent overall. And they increasingly say the Republican Party is a better steward of the economy.
white male millennials prefer R over D by 9%. Look at the chart 'REGISTERED MILLENNIAL VOTERS' and you will see that white males are R 46% to 37% D.
And you blanket statement-ed all 'millennials'. "I bet the millennials will not be too happy about state income tax". Pretty sure I don't see a "most" or "many" quantifier in there.

The responses were surprising and hilarious.
They ranged from "Why would you wanna do that?" to "DO you know where you live?" and the best one, "El Paso. You should go there."
