A Dallas County jury took only a few days to convict Jorge Esparza, a Mesquite man, of murder and sentence him to life in prison for the 2020 killing of University of Texas at Arlington nursing student Ricardo Madriz.
Witnesses testified that Esparza, described by several women as jealous and controlling, stalked his former partners after their relationships ended. According to prosecutors, Esparza fatally shot Madriz just minutes after Madriz dropped off his date in South Dallas in August 2020.
Following the conviction, prosecutors presented additional testimony from women who alleged that Esparza harassed and stalked them, adding weight to the sentencing decision. Esparza’s life sentence requires him to serve a minimum of 30 years, making him ineligible for parole until 2054.
