Re: PC Cancel Culture
I want name-changes performed on anything and anyone named "Soros," Bloomberg," "Brady," "Giffords," and the complete prohibition of use of the words "gun violence" in sequence or as part of a phrase. I mean, if we can change 600 existing placenames across America because they contain the Algonquin word for woman, surely I can get that simple request fulfilled...

More on Zucker's resignation from CNN: https://abc13.com/cnn-jeff-zucker-resig ... /11532509/
From January 12 and the New York Post (well before Zucker's resignation):
Scandal-ridden CNN sees ratings dive by 90% after 2021 coverage

Emphasis mine, but where's the Beavis snarky chuckle emoji? In an email to staffers sent shortly after Zucker's [announcement], Jason Kilar, the CEO of CNN parent WarnerMedia, said, "I have accepted Jeff Zucker's resignation as Chairman of WarnerMedia News and Sports, and President of CNN Worldwide. We thank Jeff for his contributions over the past 9 years."
Kilar added, "We will be announcing an interim leadership plan shortly. Both of these organizations are at the top of their respective games and are well prepared for their next chapters."

CNN’s ratings took a nosedive by a massive 90 percent both overall and in the all-important demographic coveted by advertisers in the first week of the new year....
CNN’s longtime boss Zucker was slammed last month over the network’s low ratings and dealings over scandals concerning network stars Cuomo and Don Lemon.

How dare her make such a blatant and radically sexist and defamatory remark as to call this person "he"! This should be investigated as a hate crime!philip964 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 19, 2021 10:39 pm https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... media.html
Scout leaders apologize to a woman after investigating her for two years after she called a bearded man “he” instead of “they” on social media.
Apparently it became a big deal in England. J. K. Rollings got involved and defended the woman.
England is weird. I hope we don’t get this bad.

A post-Olympics follow-up on this story from Gary Franchi:Rafe wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 4:52 pm The women's 3rd place hammer thrower said, "I was irritated, to be honest," that the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials yesterday in Eugene, OR, didn't cancel the National Anthem.
"I was thinking about what I should do," said Gwen Berry. "Eventually I stayed there and I swayed, I put my shirt over my head. It was real disrespectful."
To be clear, what she thinks was disrespectful was the playing of the National Anthem. Not her turning her back to the flag and putting a black T-shirt over her head. That was what she decided was the proper way for her to respond. The women taking the podium were handed a small bouquet of flowers and a small U.S. flag. Berry refused the to take a flag.
"The anthem doesn't speak for me. It never has. My purpose and my mission is bigger than sports," she continued. "I'm here to represent those ... who died due to systemic racism. That's the important part. That's why I'm going. That's why I'm here today."
Funny that U.S. Olympic Committee who gets all its funding from the tax payers and from tax-payer donations--and, heck, all the rest of us and the rest of the world, for that matter--thought that you were going to Tokyo to compete as a member of Team USA. Not Team Gwendolyn Berry.

Re: PC Cancel Culture
I wonder if we'll need a separate thread about the Olympics. I sure hope not. But...

A July 2 update to the Gwen Berry story:
Olympian Gwen Berry's problematic tweets unearthed amid anthem uproar
https://www.foxnews.com/sports/olympian ... hem-uproar
This lovely human who is slated--as of now--to represent the United States of America at the Olympics in Japan, in past tweets made jokes about gang rape, mocked Mexicans, Asians, and white people, and said she would like to stomp a "lil white boy."
But none of that is racist, of course.

I would very much like to see her removed from the U.S. Team. Her demonstration led to calls from conservative voices for her to step aside. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, and Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., have been among the loudest voices.

Re: PC Cancel Culture
This just in...
WASHINGTON, DC, March 25, 2024 — The Harris administration's fourth surgeon general, Dr. Maurice Windecker, was asked for and has tendered his resignation to the president. It was discovered that Windecker, 51, tweeted in 2007 a blatantly racist slur. At the time a practicing dermatologist, Windecker wrote, in part, "Skin is skin, no matter its melanin content. It's important for African Americans to use sunblock, too."
Even though the Tweet is now 17 years old, the public outcry over the evidence of Windecker's inherent and systemic racism has been overwhelming. "This administration and the United States has always been and will always be about unity and inclusion," said President Kamala Harris in a press conference this morning. "Dr. Windecker has resigned his post effective immediately. Let this be a signal that racism, in any form or disguise, will never be tolerated or excused."
The president said that she would announce her pick for the next surgeon general in the near future. Insiders within the Democratic Party have indicated another strong push to appoint Dr. Jill Biden to the office. When Dr. Biden's name was raised prior to Windecker's appointment, Senator Ted Cruz (R - Texas) Tweeted, "But she isn't a medical doctor. She has no medical training or scientific background at all." Some feel that the continued resentment over that personal attack on Dr. Biden may be enough to motivate President Harris to name her to the post this time.
