Re: M1 Garand. Do I buy it?

$800 cash and includes several clips and about 150 rounds of 30-06.
On second thought, maybe I should take a peek at this weapon... Want to share the seller info? I sure wouldn't want anything bad to happen to you!

;-)

BTW, just kidding... that sounds like a pretty fair deal. Garands are only getting more and more scarce. One day, like the Springfields they'll only be available as re-sales.

Re: M1 Garand. Do I buy it?

You can get a "Special Grade" M1 which is a re-build in .308 from the CMP.

Here's the paragraph that describes the .308 Special Grade;

M1 Garand, CMP Special (.308)
Allow 30-60 days for delivery.
M1 Garand Springfield Armory receiver. This is a completely refurbished rifle consisting of an original M1 Garand Springfield receiver, new production Criterion barrel, new production American Walnut stock and handguards, and new web sling. Receiver and most other parts are refinished USGI, but some parts may be new manufacture. A .308 spacer block is installed to prevent the loading of a .30-06 round into the chamber.

I've got two 30.06 M1's and have had a hankerin' for one of these for a while now.

Let me tell you from experience, the Special Grade is a sweet rifle and accurate. A better alternative to a random Garand unless something else stands out.

I can't see paying $1000 for a carbine. Up to you I guess.

You are absolutley killin' me. I've got a couple of things in mind that I've been saving for a I see that. Gee Whiz. Do you know how hard it is not to toss my plans up in the air and just send off for one of those? That .308 has intrigued me for a while!
