I think the link will work even if you are not a USCCA member. If it doesn't work, the gist of the story is the Post Office has it's own rules and courts have allowed them to claim authority over their premises, the parking lot, and even including the public side walk outside the boundaries of the parking lot.

The author, Kevin L. Jamison is an attorney in the Kansas City Missouri area concentrating in the area of weapons and self-defense. The last paragraph of the story:

For more than twenty years I have advised parties who wish to challenge the Postal Service to get a 55 gallon drum, cram it full of $100 bills, stuff them in as tight as possible, then wheel the barrel into my office; then we would talk; until then, it is just talk.

Some businesses will accept prepaid priority mail packages for the postman to pick up later. The Office Depot near my house here in Austin does that as well as accepting prepaid UPS packages. I drop off priority mail packages there all the time. But you cannot do certified mail, return receipt, registered mail, etc. that way. And I have not found a way to get those services except at a post office.

I'm convinced they really don't care...at least the people behind the desk of any post office I've been in don't care. I'm not saying they don't do the job, and they can be helpful with your needs...they just take their sweet time. I hope there are exceptions in your post office. But they certainly don't care about the right to self-defense.
