Those of you who want the kimbers that don't work are missing the point. I'm sure I could either hire a gunsmith and get them to work (maybe, kimber wasn't able to in 3 trips...)
1000 dollar guns should work fine. period.
A functioning kimber, like my grand raptor, is a fantastic gun...I'll agree there. I'm not a recreational pistol shooter though...Muzzleloaders, longbows and recurves are my recreational devices and some quirkiness is acceptable with any of these. My handgun, however, needs to work reliably, as it's a tool.

Re: Spitting Kimber
This is just plain nonsense. The default behavior of a 1000 dollar gun is that it work correctly. A properly functioning, premium handgun purchased at that price should be an expected unremarkable event.CompVest wrote:My Kimber was great out of the box. It just that people are more apt to complain then praise!
The reason you see so many complaints about Kimber is that there are so many poorly functioning Kimbers out there. Period.
I have had 3, I still own one. The first, an eclipse pro, scarred my forehead. I sent it back to the factory and it returned not only scarring my forehead, but also with multiple FTFs. The second kimber, an ultra raptor, was unreliable with hollowpoint ammo. After multiple trips back to Kimber (and them "fixing" it by showing they could make it feed FMJs!) it finally would accept federals and hornadies if I recall, but no other HPs... Moreover, the kimber service folks were rude. My grand raptor functions flawlessly.
I have other friends who've purchased Kimbers recently (last few years) and have had issues. My impression is that kimber is a once excellent company who's suffering recent quality control issues.
To say that Kimber is just the butt of some hatred for no good reason and that people complain for no good reason is ridiculous. Kimber is the subject of countless critical threads simply because they cannot reliably produce a 1000 dollar gun that can be trusted to fire every time you pull the trigger.

Re: Spitting Kimber
If this is a new gun, fixing yourself makes no sense. I think a company that portrays itself as manufacturing quality guns should take their 1000 dollar gun back and fix it.
If you get the idea that I'm dissatisfied with Kimber, you are correct. Most of the folks that I know that have kimbers 3 or mor years old are happy with them. A lot of the folks buying Kimbers last year and this year are reporting issues with FTFs and with brass hitting their foreheads.

Re: Spitting Kimber
two of the three kimbers I've owned did this. They both required multiple trips back to Kimber's customer service for that and other issues. Ulitmately they were corrected, but Kimber's customer service is pretty condescending. Yours will scar your head until you send it back at least once. If you push them, they will send ups to pick it up. They will most likely not offer this and if you offer to just send the gun they're happy to comply.
I have one remaining Kimber. If I could magically transform it into a springer, STI, or one of several other guns, I would. Not because of any issues with it. It's a flawless grand raptor II. I just don't like Kimber's business practice, etc.
