That stinks. I'm quite sure that it took mine less than 90 last year... For those in Virginia getting a resident permit, at least they don't need one to BUY a gun or even open carry...FloridaViaMissouri wrote:tomorrow will be 90 days. If I don't get the permit by the middle of next week I'll be emailing them again and wondering what's going on. I've got a FL and AZ permit but these permits are literally to die for. Lawmakers tried passing a law in VA to allow domestic violence victims to get permits faster but Governor McAwful vetoed it and votes not there for override. I wonder how many people might die over not being able to get a permit in time.

Re: Wait time for non resident Virginia permits
That's an interesting system. Is the Mississippi enhanced permit shall issue if you meet the requirements? On the path to Constitutional carry I would like to see Texas remove the 46.03/35 restrictions on license holders.bdr518 wrote:I like Mississippi's three tiered system:ScottDLS wrote:I'm not. I think there should be fewer arbitrary restrictions on the "right" to carry, like the "Constitutional Carry" states. Criminals will carry without a license anyway, so why do the law abiding need the state to sell us our right to carry. License background check should involve an instant NICS check and issue the same day if you qualify to buy a gun, if we have to have a license at all.
1) No permit required to carry.
2) Permit w/ background check to take advantage of reciprocity
3) Enhanced permit (w/ more stringent background check and training) to be able to carry in "Off limits" places (Similar to those listed in 42.03).
Their laws for the enhanced permit allow carrying ANYWHERE. The only catch is some places (like the post office) while immune from State prosecution, you are still subject to Federal law.

I'm glad that they look at criminal histories of applicants & that certain folks get denied for not meeting the legal qualifications. I even think the eligibility laws are too lenient as they are now.
ETA: BTW I actually have a Texas LTC and a non-res Virginia CCL. It took right on about 45 days to get my Virginia last year.
