Here's my question. He told me he "had" to show his DL + CHL when getting his airport ID badge. Not because of the clients procedures/policy but rather TX law.

Is that true or false?
Maybe. Was the person processing the airport ID badge a peace officer?
I'm not sure about the scope of CK's visit but if he was going beyond a secure area he wouldn't be carrying anyway right? In which case you don't need to produce the ID to a peace officer.

One would think there would be TSA policies regardless of the airport. But then again I don't really know. Is there some kind of an airport TSA director that has some leeway with policies for his/her area?

Picture would get denied for obscuring your face.

I don't normally carry any pic ID beyond my DL so if asked for my "2nd ID", I'll show them my CHL.

BTW, has any consideration been given to having the CHL be shown on your DL instead of carring another card? When you get your CHL, it could come as a replacement to the DL with an extra notation. Might also make sense to have them expire at the same time. And while I'm at it, how about letting the local DPS office renew them when you renew the DL.

OK, perhaps I went too far with that last bit but, you get the idea.

I don't know that I would like having my CHL status on my DL. I don't need the clerk at 7-11 knowing/getting freaked out at the subject.

OTOH, it would make traffic stops easier.

She asked if you had a CHL? That seems odd considering the percentage of the population that does.

The other guy, unprovoked will say, "yeah, it's a nice gun, but I generally carry a Glock". And then the guy will pull his Glock out of his IWB and show the other guy and start talking about the virtues of when/where he carries it. This scenario happens at EVERY gun show without fail. Some CHL guy will openly let other people know that he carries with little to no provoking. While I'm proud to be a CHL holder, I don't feel a need to make it a point to let other's know I have a CHL, unless specifically asked. As a result, my behavior would be to not use my CHL as any form of identification.
I don't see anything wrong with this. You're in an environment where you know you're around others you can discuss it with. I don't see talking about CHL related things at that venue much different than talking shop on this forum.

Edit: I would see something wrong with pulling out your concealed weapon to show it off. I just meant I don't see anything wrong with discussion there.

Have/Would you ever use your CHL as a genearl purpose ID?

I know the general consensus around here for many is to never show your license to anyone except and LEO when required to by law. Still, I'm wondering if anyone has used it as a proof of identification. Buying beer, cigarettes, getting into a rated R movie, getting through airport security, what ever.

After all it is a government issued photo ID and seems like it would serve as a valid ID in many scenarios.

I expect many replies to largely be focused around why the poster would never do this and why it's a horrible idea for anyone to try. But I was curious so I figured I'd throw it out there.

If you have please post details on the scenario below including the reaction you received from the person you were presenting it to.
