Take it to a gunsmith and leave it for "cleaning" or "safety check"... Just let them know you will be a few days before picking it up. I've never had to transfer a gun back and forth for gunsmithing work of any kind, so residence shouldn't matter. But call ahead to verify they can/will do it.
