Sure, we all camped in public places, packed coolers and hauled in our own gas... plus the NRA strong armed the city into a rent free week use of the KBHCC and arena. Yep, cost the city lots of money. I bet the Hotel tax alone, made up the cost to the city. If conventions weren't a HUGE money maker and economic shot to the city, they wouldn't spent millions courting trade shows and conventions from all over.

No mention of how much extra LEO costs were due to the threat of protests? Oh, by the way,how much did the BLM protests cost to the City back when those officers were shot? How about the women's march? Crickets, huh?

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas

Now that the notifications are all updated, it's pretty clear that the arena is the only area off limits. I wish they had cleared it up from the start to avoid the media trashing. The current version of the website notifications are not the same as the originals. (thus the initial confusion for anyone not familiar with the KBHCC)

You (the proverbial you) wouldn't expect to carry anywhere else in the world they would be, just because it's an NRA event, the protection status of our Nation's leaders doesn't change. And when the only vetting of the 10's of thousands of attendees is a $30 (open to anyone) membership, they should expect anyone with ill intent to take advantage of that. I expect the left to dishonestly point out a "double standard" but we should be objective enough to see the difference and see that it's actually SOP. :tiphat:

Maybe next time they should have the Pres/VP give their speeches at the big Dallas Post Office!! That way there is no misunderstanding and no backlash about firearms! "rlol"

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas

Thanks for the post and inference, :tiphat: but that info was not up the other day... after checking the web sites, my telephone calls to the NRA were answered with:
We don't yet know if the entire event or just the speaking area will be secured. Once the Secret Service gives us the detail we'll post it so check back daily for updates on the web site.

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas

The part of this that's unsettling for me is that the Dallas convention center has plenty of separate areas for them to speak but no one has yet determined (or at least posted to the NRA sites) what is and what is off limits. (As of my call to the NRA this afternoon)

I'm coming from out of town, riding with a friend and then after the convention, going north by rail (which I would no longer do unarmed) so if the whole event goes no carry while the POTUS is there, I will have to leave- I'll have no place to store my weapon.

Has the ticketed area for speeches been defined yet??

Grundy1133 wrote:"regular guys"or not, I don't care how popular you are or how big your salary is, I think it's unnecessary to disarm the good guys. If a bad guy decides to show up in a room full of armed citizens PLUS secret service, the VP should feel safe knowing that the bad guy will have about 200 holes in him before anything bad happens. Me personally, I won't be listening to him speak. I won't be going anywhere that I cant carry my firearm. It's essentially the nations largest get together for gun owners and they won't let law abiding legal gun owners carry guns because someone who's supposedly pro 2A thinks its too "dangerous"? thats liberal logic right there... one of the safest places I could think to be is in a room full of law abiding armed citizens... just my 2 cents
Seriously- what about the guy across the room with the rifle? The VP could be dead (with just one hole to use your analogy) before anyone else has a gun drawn.

This is not about being popular or $$$, the leaders of the free world are NOT like you and I. This is about the office, not the men. Which is why they have hundreds of people that would take a bullet for them!

It's not a CC scenario you and I will ever face. There aren't millions of people world wide that want you and I dead. I'm certain you can see the difference, even if you don't want to admit it. :tiphat:

no Jason812, not directed towards you at all and I share your question of what will be off limits. I also want to see him but I'm not driving myself so have no outside storage option.

The comments that prompted my post were:
You may disagree...but in my opinion the very people that claim to protect the 2A should never host an event that requires disarming the good guys. Sad. No excuses for this...it makes us look stupid.
agree 100% I hope he speaks to an empty room...

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas

Come on guys- the President and Vice President aren't "regular guys"... and should not be expected to do what we do. The represent our Nation, and as such are in need of more protection than most individuals. I bet none of you has issue with them flying in protected airspace, or having armored transport or weapons on planes, etc. So expecting them to speak at a large gathering of armed, UNVETTED people with no checks on their background or mental state is literally the dumbest thing I have read on this forum in a while.

I just wish there were a "gun check" room so I could go to his speech. I'm catching a ride to Dallas with a friend and taking the rail from there to meet family so I will be armed, with no way to store the gun to watch the speech.

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas

To clarify, we are thinking no carry in the room(s) that Pence will be speaking in but that the rest of the convention center with all the vendors/exhibitors is still GTG, right?

Police department or Security staff may request proof of handgun license. Your understanding and cooperation is appreciated.
Geeze, I hope that no one tries to go and reeducate them.

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas

I think it will be posted 30.07 because everything I have seen says CC is ok but no mention of OC... (so if your ar pistol is actually classified a pistol you are probably fine)
Is concealed carry allowed at the Show?

During the 2018 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits, lawfully carried firearms will be permitted in the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center and the Omni Dallas Hotel in accordance with Texas law. When carrying your firearm remember to follow all federal, state, and local laws.
My greatest fear at the NRA gathering isn't the active shooter- it's being caught in the cross fire! :txflag:

That better be a clear backpack
I read (I think on the NRA site) that bags were allowed but subject to search. I'll have a backpack with me.

ETA:

from the faq: Are backpacks allowed at the Annual Meeting?

Backpacks are allowed on site at the show but have to be kept on your person at all times. Any backpacks left unattended will be reported to security.
