I read almost every post in this thread, and didn't see a single one that claimed the shoving was justified. Maybe I missed a post saying that, but in any event, I agree with you that the "shover" was not justified to lay his hands on the shooter.

The only real question being discussed here is whether the shooting was justified given the totality of the circumstances, including the shooters decision to initiate the confrontation in the first place.

I agree with the question of good/bad shoot. But but the caveat to me is that the discussion with the parked car is not really part of the equation... he was blindly assaulted and the aggressor had no notion of what he and the driver were discussing or why. At best he heard his girl and a man arguing. And of note- the man was not up in the window physically threatening her.

My position is that he should not have shot... but I'm not convinced that he'll be found guilty either.

We really suck as a community of 2A and CHL/LTC brethren. We are a house divided, in the saddest sense.

I didn't particularly "like" the shoot, but we still don't have the relevant facts to judge him. I see a huge gap in what's legal vs what we think is good or right...

For every one of you high horsers, there are always those that ride higher... and if you ever face an attack that you defend yourself from, well baby, you better strap in for the keyboard commando lynch mob!! Guilty until proven innocent... nice job, guys.

Big difference between a "good shoot" and a "legal shoot" I think our crowd leans more towards only calling a "good shoot," good when discussing these vs. just going with the legal aspect.

Either way, attacking a senior citizen for talking to your girlfriend is criminal... and I feel sorry for the kid - who now only has 1 crappy parent.

It's hard to make a definitive judgement based solely on this video. However, this is a good example of why I do not believe one should feel the need to shoot just because one has pulled his/her weapon. Many seem to think if you pull your weapon you better shoot or not pull it at all.

I agree that it's best not to pre-determine a shoot if you draw. I didn't have audio but the aggressor could well have additionally said something to the effect of I'll kill you or beat you, etc. Details matter, and we never seem to have them all when discussion these scenarios.

The other factor is that it seemed the senior didn't see the guy approaching and was completely blindsided. That alone would make the attack seem random and more violent, which could have been the difference between shoot first or re-assess before firing.
