You rock, Andy! I'm not sure why INS even needed an interview to confirm you as a citizen!

I didn't doubt you or that you had a lemon, I just noted that you are in the minority (with multiple lemons) and that no gun is perfect, even if some marketing guy writes "perfection" on the box.
Yes, very much so. My 1911 experience is the exact opposite- I've never had a problem 1911, in any brand or configuration.YMMV

Re: Reasons to get a 1911 and which one?
Those words have been uttered about every gun ever made, by one man or another. I've seen glocks and M&P's fail, even a couple of sig's and XD's. If you "have had a lot of reliability issues" with multiple 1911's, you are certainly among the minority.

Re: Reasons to get a 1911 and which one?
I'd love to have a 10mm, although I have no practical need for it, other then an excuse to start reloading a new caliber. Which is, in part, why I bought the last one in 38 Super!

Re: Reasons to get a 1911 and which one?
Ha! I'm sitting on an even number right now... and since I'm well short of cash for what I want next, I'm safe- for a little while!

TAM,The Annoyed Man wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2019 8:50 pmSeeing as how the pistol was adopted by the military in 1911, and the Series 70 modifications came out in 1970, I don't see how that can be.
1911 - is the original design adopted by the military in 1911.
1911A1 - was adopted by the military in 1924.
1911 Series 70 - released by Colt in 1970.
1911 Series 80 - released by Colt in 1983.
The reference to firing pin block as series 80 is partially correct but in that regard its an 80 or a pre series 80. The real 70 series has a collet bushing only applied to full size Colt 1911's. Although makers now use 70/80 to define the firing pin block or lack thereof.
Some detail here: https://www.ammoland.com/2017/02/series ... z63SdRAVgF
ETA: Kind of like in Kimber speak it a series II (with a Schwartz style FP block) or a pre series II. The originals were never referred to or called series I until they after they had a series II.

Re: Reasons to get a 1911 and which one?
Books have been written to adequately cover that question...
I love my 1911's and do carry them often. Although I don't carry a full size. I like them for a variety of reasons- ergos, trigger, thinness, aesthetics, design, "custimizability." (yes, I kind of made that last one up) I carry them because I shoot them better than any other handgun and they carry easily being a thin single stack.
As for recommendations, there are a bunch to choose from so you'll probably have to make a list of what features you want/like and then start model searching. Start with size and frame material (do you want LW or steel?) and then get into all the specifics from triggers and sights, to beavertails, round butts, etc.
There are lots of great options out there.
