You shouldn't make such a blanket statement, because it's not true.
It might be true for most bases, but not all. Every military base commander sets his own rules, and some allow firearms.

I would n't worry about it... just keep it locked in your trunk unloaded while on base.
It is most unlikely anyone will ever know you have it, and if they do find out for some reason, locked in the trunk unloaded will not cause you any problems.
Now if your son happens to be the Wing King it is even easier....
