I - at the time a newly-licensed CHL holder and still somewhat self-conscious - was carrying my BHP IWB under an untucked shirt . . . the Fry's in Austin had a sale, and checkout lines were L - O - N - G. (as an aside, NEVER AGAIN will I wait that long, but I was building a PC and buying everything.)
Well, while waiting in line I got to talking to a few other shoppers - nothing special, just chewing the fat.
When all of a sudden, out of the blue, another shopper looks at me, and in a loud, hillbilly accent asks
"Hey, have y'all got a GUN with ya now?"
Oh heck . . . my heart leapt into my throat. Am I printing? Did my shirt ride up? Am I going to have to leave, post-haste? Why is EVERYONE IN EARSHOT looking at us?
So I said, "Uh . . . why do you ask?"
"Well" Mr. Hillbilly says, "If y'all had a GUN then y'all could just SHOOT ME right now, and I wouldn't have to wait in this line any more!!!"
Much laughter all around . . . so I made a show of patting myself down and said "Darn! I KNEW I forgot something this morning"
More laughter.
If they only knew . . .
