Quote/Question: "Excuse me for this, but are those using 1911s mainly of middle age or younger shooters ..."

As a whole, the 1911 shooters tend to be in fifties and above.

But, there are always exceptions. Back in the 90s' I had a guy (pilot, 20-year air force vet) who was a die-hard .45 guy. Reloaded for 'em, chronoed the difference between different primers, measured groups, saved targets, the whole OCD thing with 1911s.

Then one day after his first CHL renewal class, I had him shoot a box through my Glock 23 just to experince "the tupperware". A month or so later he had one of his own and said "I can't believe I waited so long to try one of these things. For what it is, the accuracy is amazing". Last time I saw him, he'd gotten away from reloading and was ordering .40 S&W rounds 1000 at a time over the internet ...

As an instructor, I see all kinds, but predominantly Glocks and 1911's.

Most instructors do seem to have at least one Glock available. We ran over 40,000 rounds through a 17 before I traded it and got a new 19 a year or so ago.

While quite a few folks carry Kel-Tecs, funny that very few folks opt to test with 'em. ;-)
