If it were you or me, we'd have been arrested. Period. The courier, on the other hand, was probably licensed as some kind of armed security and was within his legal rights to fire at the thief while in pursuit.

I guess that, under California's twisted (and elitist) reasoning, you may kill someone to protect your employer's property, but not your own. :grumble
