Re: Carry in a post office and police station???

fickman wrote:My CHL instructors had a different take regarding Grapevine Mills. They said that 30.06 must be posted at each public entrance according to the law (size, colors, prominence, etc.). They just said to pick your entrance carefully. . . if you entered a legal public entrance and were not notified, then there's no way for them to expect you to comply. The law doesn't say that you must investigate every entrance of a building before knowing if you can carry.

I'm not trying to say this as "matter-of-fact" except to say this is what my instructors said in 2004. (I took the class at Bass Pro Shop.)
fickman, glad to see that you joined up! I have the following problems with GMM:
  1. Their 30.06 posting seems to be ambiguous. When I took the course in 12/07 (the same guys you took if from, apparently), the instructors told us that the "loophole" entrance at GMM had since been properly posted. I never cared enough about the place to want to go see for myself. I just stay away from it.
  2. Even if you do comply and secure your weapon in your vehicle before going into the mall, as you well know from reading local newspapers, the GMM parking lot is crawling with car burglars. I can have no reasonable expectation when I park there that my car will not be broken into before I get back.
  3. Mall walkers. Don't you just hate them? They have aaaaaaaall day to walk as slowly as they want to, 6 abreast so you can get by them. If it were just legal to tase mall walkers, I might feel differently about it.
I just don't go there. I haven't been there since before I got my CHL.

Oldgringo wrote:Should BassPro post a 30.06, the definition of "hypocrisy" would need revision.

In the meantime, visits to the Grapevine Mall area will be restricted to those establishments which either assure me and mine protection, to and fro, or those which allow us a fighting chance.

I said that :thumbs2:
Oh, I quite agree. That's one reason why I don't shop at that mall. Plus, there's a VERY high rate of car break-ins in their parking lot. It's famous for them; so you can't even secure your weapon in the car with any reasonable expectation of it still being there when you get back. Besides, I despise malls anyway.

All those folks who have AAAAALLLLLLLLL day long to walk 6 abreast in front of me at a snail's pace without letting you by just make me crazy. If there was a bullet that would kill somebody for just 10 minutes at a time, I would shoot them all.

So much for shopping at/in Grapevine. The internet is safer and cheaper.
BassPro Grapevine isn't posted. I carried in there just a few days ago. However, they do forbid their employees to carry on the job.

killerfly128 wrote:you answered my question perfectly ... ill just leave it in the car at the post office
Our local post office here in Grapevine has a sign on the front door citing some federal law against firearms possession inside. I don't know if it is actually valid or not. I have a PO Box for my business there. So when I go to pick up my mail, I just disarm first before going inside.

Our local police station has no sign, and I carried into it the other day when I went to get a permit for our new security system, but once inside, I saw that there were some courtrooms in there. However, there was no security between the front door, and the doors to the courtrooms. I went ahead on in to the window to pay for my permit, and then I left. Nobody noticed... nobody was there to notice. I didn't worry about it. The only 30.06 signs I've seen in the whole town so far have been at the Grapevine Mills mall. But I avoid that place like the plague anyway.
