You completely misunderstood what Charles said.

The issue was that all other industries except gun manufacturers were dealt with in a completely different way in the tax code. The gun manufacturers were required to file the same taxes every two weeks, instead of the longer intervals required of all other manufacturers. In other words, they did not enjoy the same protections under the law as ALL other types of manufactures, including (yes) oil companies, clothing manufacturers, (yes) auto manufacturers, fast food chains, hardware stores, dry cleaners, die-casters, meat processors, aerospace firms, machine shops, airlines, cobblers, wheat farmers, computer manufacturers, home appliance manufacturers, etc., etc., etc.

The law as it previous stood was, in fact, discriminatory, specifically against gun manufacturers. When a law was put before Congress to deal with it and rectify the problem, Ron Paul was one of the votes against rectifying it. In other words, he was happy with continued tax discrimination against gun manufacturers.....

....and you support this? Please.

He's good for a laugh to most people, because we've lost our way as Americans. Your further comments show your ignorance on the subject and need no further points.
I realize that this guy is banned already, but his posts cause me to comment on something. I've had plenty of discussions with Ron Paul supporters over the years, and many of them are good at courteous discourse. I might not agree with them, at least not on some things, but at least they are possessed of the social graces, and more importantly, they use them. I have nothing but respect for such people.

Then there are the sort of Ron Paul supporters whom I call "Ronulans," who are reminiscent of nothing so much as the "Know Nothings" of the 19th century. They seem to come from far out in the fever swamp, and they contribute nothing of value either to political discourse, or the governance of the nation. They are bomb throwers. If you disagree with them, it's because you are ignorant and should shut up. With their exception, most of the "Shut Uppers" come from the hard left. Not the left of center, but the far, hard, marxist inspired left. They cannot articulate sound arguments for their positions, and when calm and logical debate calls them out on it, their reaction is to try and suppress free speech and/or shout down the opposition with "Shut up! But the yelling of "Shut up" is not something true conservatives or true libertarians want to be using as a response if someone actually gives us a run for our intellectual money and forces us to either become better debaters or to reassess our positions. WE believe in free speech. We believe in it enough to be willing to die to defend it. When the best answer you can come up with is to personally insult your opponent or try to shut him down, then you've lost the debate. That is what happened to Apophis. Folks like that seem at least borderline cultic.....and sometimes seem to descend into the overtly cultic. Read on....

The name "Apophis" has several potential sources, none of them positive (SOURCE):
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  • Apophis (Egyptian Apophis, Apophis) may refer to:
  • Apep, an Ancient Egyptian mythological demon, in Greek known as Apophis
  • Apepi (pharaoh), a Hyksos pharaoh of Lower Egypt
  • 99942 Apophis, a near-Earth asteroid
  • Apophis (Stargate), a Stargate SG-1 character based on the Egyptian demon
In Egyptian mythology, Apep/Apophis was the god of chaos and darkness. Great name for someone who would seek to participate in governance, which should be the exact opposite of chaos and darkness. I'm assuming that "our" Apophis knows nothing about Greek or Egyptian mythology, but is probably aware of the Stargate character. For a description of that character, CLICK HERE. Not a very nice guy. Why would someone want to take that name as their Internet handle if they weren't a little dysfunctional?

Maybe I'm out of line here, but that is my reaction to this kind of stuff.

Starting with Thomas Jefferson, who sent the U.S. Navy and the Marines against the Barbary Pirates at Tripoli?

That dog won't hunt.
