Second question, why in the world would someone turn these files over in the first place without raising all kinds of stink about it to the media?
Don't worry, eventually all of our medical records are going to be in the hands of the IRS, and this will happen BEFORE the end of the Obama administration. Any administration which has behaved the way this one has is not going to be cowed by a little thing called morality. An administration which had handled Benghazi the way this one has is not going to care about a little thing called "honor." An administration which has used the IRS in a naked abuse of power against conservatives is not going to be cowed by a little thing called "The Law." An administration which will treat the AP, in contravention of all previous administrations handling of the press, the way this one has is not going to be cowed by a little thing called "Transparency." An administration which stole confidential CONGRESSIONAL phone records as part of that investigation is not going to be cowed by a little thing called "The Separation of Powers." An administration which stole without warrant the medical records of TEN THOUSAND people not named in a search warrant it was serving on ONE person, just because it COULD, is not going to be cowed by a little thing called "the 4th Amendment."
My guess is that, if you search hard enough, somewhere in the thousands of pages of the (UN)Affordable Healthcare Act and its tens of thousands of NEW pages of regulations it authorizes, you will find in 6 point type stuck in a footnote, a paragraph which, if twisted hard enough, provides the authorization to steal your medical records without notifying you, obtaining a warrant, or asking for your permission. Since, with one single exception, this entire miasma of insanely bad judgement and disregard for the Constitution is a DEMOCRAT plot, I smell DEMOCRATs on the theft of these medical records—either by indirect action for having supported and voted for this crappy, and fecklessly insane bill; or directly through the agency of a white house operative in the MOST CORRUPT AND LEAST TRANSPARENT ADMINISTRATION IN THE HISTORY OF THE NATION.
This is why democrats can never again be trusted with governance. Republicans aren't a whole lot better, but at least their fecklessness is motivated by a desire to be liked by their cocktail circuit colleagues inside the beltway, rather than by an intentional desire to destroy the nation. Obama promised to fundamentally transform the United States of America. I believed him then.....just not the way he was trying to sell it. I hope that the rest of you believe it now....no matter what line of crap you might have bought from him back in 2008 or 2012. That cretin can try and blame Bush for all of his problems (which he brought on his own head), but THIS KIND OF INVASION OF PRIVACY WOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED UNDER BUSH, AND ON THE SLIM CHANCE THAT IT DID, HEADS WOULD ROLL!!! Bush would have never put up with this, and he would have never defended it. Instead, democrats actually try and defend these nazi tactics.
If you were a democrat in 2008, you were just wrong, that's all. People change as they get wiser. I was a democrat until 1996. I changed and got wiser. But if you're still one today after everything that has happened since then on Obama's watch.....well, I'm not a doctor of psychiatry and I can't help you.
Edited to add......
For those of you who trust democrats with future governance.....Guess who the likely front runner candidate will be in 2016. Did you guess Hillary Clinton? If you did, read this, and tell me you'd still vote for the democrat front-runner: http://patdollard.com/2013/05/flashback ... stitution/. The person who fired her during a Watergate investigations? A LIFELONG democrat, back in the days when you could still more or less trust a democrat to be no more malicious than a republican. A politician called her a liar and a person without conscience.

ANOTHER IRS scandal....
IRS faces class action lawsuit over theft of 60 million medical records
California HIPAA-covered entity sues big time
SAN DIEGO | March 15, 2013

This story goes back to March. Guess who oversaw the IRS section in charge of enforcing the new healthcare regs? The same person who was in charge of ordering the harassment of Tea Party applications for non-profit status. They STOLE these medical records, even though they had NOTHING TO DO WITH the actual person named in the warrant they were serving. They just figured, "oh, we've got the access, we're going to take the records, and who's going to stop us?"
My friends, we are in serious trouble.

Think this information won't be used to enforce gun confiscations? Think this information won't be used to go after the uninsured? Etc., etc., etc.The Internal Revenue Service could now be facing a class action lawsuit over allegations that it improperly accessed and stole the health records of some 10 million Americans, including medical records of all California state judges.
According to a report by Courthousenews.com, an unnamed HIPAA-covered entity in California is suing the IRS, alleging that some 60 million medical records from 10 million patients were stolen by 15 IRS agents. The personal health information seized on March 11, 2011, included psychological counseling, gynecological counseling, sexual/drug treatment and other medical treatment data.
"This is an action involving the corruption and abuse of power by several Internal Revenue Service agents," wrote Robert E. Barnes, attorney representing the John Doe Company, in the official complaint. "No search warrant authorized the seizure of these records; no subpoena authorized the seizure of these records; none of the 10,000,000 Americans were under any kind of known criminal or civil investigation and their medical records had no relevance whatsoever to the IRS search.
