I need to check my birth certificate for that, you never know... :
Don't take the certificate's word for it.

My best buddy growing up was discovered to be "female" on his birth certificate, when he was processing for NROTC in college. Somehow, through ~18 years of school, Little League, draft registrations, whatever, that detail had been overlooked.

So ya just never know.

If you were lucky enough to be born in Texas, you can get a fancy certificate "Native Texan" suitable for framing and displaying, from the Department of State Health Services, an "Heirloom" certificate.
Texas is weird that way some times. My ex-wife got drafted when she was a 13 year old girl living in El Paso. She received several threatening letters from the selective service bureau for having failed to show up, which her father answered by mail, telling them that they were trying to draft a 13 year old girl. Finally a couple of FBI agents showed up at her door to take her into custody. My father in law, who was an active duty Major in the Army at the time, brought her to the door, and said "THIS is who you've been trying to draft and send threatening letters to." That put an end to it.

Welcome to the forum. Us 62 year olds have got to stick together. Too many crotchety old guys and young punks around here.

It might be that that it's too late to add something to the application on your own - depending on where the app is in the process. You could phone DPS and explain the situation, and they will tell you what you need to do. In any case, the background check they do is pretty thorough, so if they find a record that needs further explaining, they will send you a letter asking for details (dates, charges, disposition, etc.). That may delay your process by a couple of weeks, but it's not going to be a big deal.

When I submitted my first application, I got such a letter. I was born a naturalized American citizen, but I was born overseas (probably the same year you were born....LOL). So DPS sent me a letter asking for proof of citizenship. I sent them a photocopy of my Certificate of Live Birth signed by the U.S. Consul in Casablanca in 1952, and they approved my application. With renewals, there has been no issue at all. Seems like once they know about something and accept it, you don't have to remind them every 5 years.
