Divided Attention wrote:The Conroe traffice around 1488 and 242 at I45N is "poopy" between 1630 and 1830. There is almost always a little slow down, but those time periods in the afternoon seem the worst. If The conference ends in the 1500 time frame I would be tempted to find a place for a nice dinner before heading north. JMPHO, YMMV
It's over at 1600 and I agree with having dinner before heading north.

MasterOfNone wrote:Houston locals, I seek your traffic advice. Heading back to Dallas, would it be better to leave immediately after the conference or hang around a couple hours and leave later? I have no idea how Houston traffic is, but I'd rather not sit idling in a log jam on the highway for hours.
In my experience, 45 Northbound from downtown to Beltway 8 (at least) is stop-and-go from 4pm to 7pm on work days.

Houston TranStar has a realtime map if you want to preview your route during rush hour Monday to get an idea.
Or monitor while you eat dinner Friday until it clears. ;-) http://traffic.houstontranstar.org
:iagree: I'd take the Hardy Toll Road and miss a lot of the traffic. You get onto it by taking Loop 610 eastbound off I-45 North, then taking the Hardy Toll Road exit. The toll road merges with I-45 northbound just south of The Woodlands, well north of most of the traffic. You may hit more near Conroe because of never-ending road construction on I-45.

I'd wait until at least 6:00 before heading north.
