I'd take the Hardy Toll Road and miss a lot of the traffic. You get onto it by taking Loop 610 eastbound off I-45 North, then taking the Hardy Toll Road exit. The toll road merges with I-45 northbound just south of The Woodlands, well north of most of the traffic. You may hit more near Conroe because of never-ending road construction on I-45.
