Re: Coming Oct. 1st: Signature line limits

Yes, but Moderators aren't going to spend hours searching for signature lines that violate this rule. We will gradually edit them ourselves by deleting everything over 4 lines.

Please make sure your signature meets this requirement by October 1st.

Did this ever go into effect? It's November 12th and I still see a lot of long signatures.

That's a good point we didn't discuss. I'll bring it up with the Moderators.

Thanks,
Chas.
The easy option is to keep it at 300 with a maximum of 3 carriage returns = 4 lines. That avoids the argument over line wrap for quotes being different for horizontal and vertical phone orientation, font size, etc.
Four lines with a character limit per line is what we'll likely adopt. That keeps the presentation better on an iPhone rotated 90 degrees.

Chas.
Will the change preclude images in the signature?
No, not now anyway. We haven't received any comments/complaints about signature line photos being a problem for mobile devices.

Coming Oct. 1st: Signature line limits

The mod that was added to convert photos to links in reply posts is working well and it makes quite a difference for people reading the Forum with an iPhone, Android or other mobile device. To further help people using these devices, we are going to set a 4 line limit on all signatures, effective October 1st. Some signatures take up 2 inches or more on my large screen, so they pose a real problem for mobile devices.

Please make sure your signature meets this requirement by October 1st.

Thanks,
Chas.
