Impact Witnesses Needed for HB1815
We need two impact witnesses to testify at the public hearing on the "Motorist Protection Act", HB 1815 (car-carry) on Monday, March 26, 2007. If you are able to go to Austin and testify, please email Alice Tripp at AGTripp@aol.com.
By "impact witnesses" we mean someone who is directly effected by the current law. Just coming to say "I support HB1815" doesn't really help as much as having someone testify about problems they have suffered.
The ideal witness is someone who has had to hire an attorney to fight the "traveling presumption" issue, because they were arrested even though they clearly met the 5 elements of "traveling."
Another good witness is someone who has to drive in dangerous places and cannot get a CHL for some reason such as defaulting on a student loan, back taxes or child support. Obviously, there must be a good reason for non-payment, such as a medical condition that prevents someone from working, etc. The guy or gal that would have to say "I didn't pay because it was cheaper that way" won't do our cause any good.
If you can help, please email Alice ASAP so she can give you all the details.
Thanks for your help,
Chas.
