Other states don't have OCT, OCTC...
I really don't understand the hate for OCT. I've also seen people saying OCT wasn't responsible for getting open carry passed. Seems like they were to me. Seems the media thinks so too, seeing as how they keep interviewing CJ Grisham and asking him about it. :txflag:
Well, your post that Grisham was "your dude" speaks volumes. Everyone with legislative/political experience with elected officials knows open-carry was passed in spite of OCT, not because of it. Was Grisham or anyone with OCT invited to the signing ceremony for HB910? Nope, and there's a very good reason -- they almost killed open-carry at least twice during the session.

Grisham gets interviews because the media hates guns and loves to claim some radical is a spokesman for gun owners. In short, they love to see him look like himself.

Open Carry Texas tactics to desensitize the public are stupid , everyone here saw how trying to cram carrying a gun down peoples throat worked out . Be a shining example to others that doubt . Much like being a Christian............by example and not threats and cheap talk .

I still have hope that OC will be accepted by the majority of Texans but I knew there would be a rough road to get there . Give it time , anything worth having takes time and effort .
The deal is done, but...... I for one will not be supporting so called constitutional carry in the next session. Although I support unlicensed carry philosophically, I believe the process to get there will actually set the restoration of gun rights back. I think the focus should be full bore on expansion of the number of places where we carry, those now restricted.

BTW, thanks to the militant OC fanatics that don't understand how to achieve progress, my bank is now posted 30.06 and 30.07.
Get a new bank. I wonder if they called Rosa Parks a "militant" for standing up for her rights too? "Now Rosa, just go back to the back of the bus, don't rock the boat, and I promise we will get you a seat at the front of the bus soon. But we have to do it the right way. Ok Rosa?" :txflag:
The Rosa Parks analogy has been put forth by other Grishanm fanboys, but it didn't sell then and it won't sell now.

Stop and I do mean stop now. It's an insult to Rosa Parks and the entire civil rights movement. Grisham is no Rosa Parks.

Re: I now regret that OC passed

As chuck j said, it's a done deal now and there's no going back. All we can do at this point is damage control, but there is a very small but very loud faction that has no interest in peace.

New 30.06 signs are being reported by Forum Members who have seen those signs. I must confess that the "other states" argument doesn't fly with me. It was used repeatedly by people who either weren't here in 1995, don't remember the period from 1995 until 9/1/1997, or who simply were not being honest. There was a huge backlash against concealed-carry and small, generic "no guns" decals were popping up all over the State. That's why we started working on what became HB2909/TPC 30.06 even before the 1995 session was over. (HB2909 passed in 1997.) Contrary to what some claim, the generic "no guns" signs/decals did not come down, not ever! They just became irrelevant with the passage of HB2909.

When someone claimed "it's not a problem in other states," I reminded them of our experience from 1995 to 9/1/1997, but it fell on deaf ears. Now we are seeing exactly what concerned me the most. You're right, we only six days into open-carry and we don't know just how large this problem will become. If the whiners don't stop harassing businesses, we're going to see more 30.06 and 30.07 signs.

I truly wish that open-carry supporters would admit that they were wrong and that there is a problem. However, I won't hold my breath. If I cannot carry my self-defense handgun into a store because they put up 30.06 and 30.07 signs, then someone's ability to show their handgun to everyone will have cost me the ability to defend myself. To me, that's a net loss for almost 1 million LTCs.

LSUTiger wrote:. . . I am sure OC has played a role in speeding up the inevitable. But IMHO, it was only a matter of time before 30.06 was going to inevitably be posted in more and more places as time goes on regardless of OC.
Nope, it wasn't inevitable and in the 18 years since HB2909 passed creating TPC §30.06, there were very few 30.06 signs posted. Some folks are saying there were a lot of 30.06 signs initially, but they came down over the years. This is not the case by any means. The "big ugly signs" were very few and far between.

The OCT antics put the focus on signs and the anti-gunners used it to their advantage. As the OP stated, open-carry supporters are making things worse by complaining about 30.07 signs, or the lack thereof, and we will see more 30.06 and 30.07 signs. They will not come down as time goes by, at least not in significant numbers.

Open-carry supporters who are in the "you're with us or you're against us" camp won't even admit there's a problem now. The few that do claim "this too will pass." No, it won't pass. OC supporters won't let it pass.
