The shooting happened at the Jones Crossing Apartments in the 9000 block of Jones Road at Steeple Park Drive shortly after 5:30 a.m.
"The complainant was walking out to his car to go to work this morning when the two suspects confronted him. There was a struggle. The complainant had a pistol. He pulled that pistol out and shot one of the suspects," Harris County Sheriff's Department Lt. John Denholm said.
Authorities said the man had a concealed handgun license. He was not injured during the confrontation.
Investigators do not believe it was a random crime. They believe the resident was targeted for marijuana he had in his apartment.
Deputies said the suspect who was shot and killed was wearing all-black clothing and a ski mask. His identity has not been released.
Authorities said a second person involved in the attempted robbery fled the scene on foot but they believe they know how to find him.
The Harris County District Attorney's office will review the case. Drug charges are pending against the shooter. If convicted, he would lose his license to carry a concealed handgun.

The good:
The bad!:The victim reported he tried to run back into his apartment, but was grabbed by one of the suspects. The victim, who has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, was carrying a handgun at the time.
This may not look good. If this is proves to be true this may be another statistic for a CHL being revoked. What appears to have been a good shoot may not come out very rosy.Authorities said the man had a concealed handgun license. He was not injured during the confrontation.
