Summary
Colorado was once one of our "Gold Star" open carry states. However, Denver filed and won a suit challenging the states excellent preemption law. Consequently, both open carry and unlicensed open car carry in Denver are prohibited. There are reports that other localities are planning to follow suit. Currently, outside of Denver, car carry is unrestricted and localities are almost completely preempted in enforcing firearms restrictions, and must post specific facilities which are off limits to open carry.
So, does Colorado still have a preemption law, or is it only "invalid" in Denver? And on what basis did Denver win this lawsuit?

I'm not sure about this, either. I have a friend whose cousin is a veterinarian in Aurora, CO. His cousin told him that Aurora does have a city ordinance banning both open and concealed carry and the police do enforce it, therefore carry of any kind is effectively banned there. I guess nobody wants to be the test case to challenge it, especially since Denver challenged State preemption and won. I guess if one city can win that, other cities feel they would win, also, so ignore preemption.

Yeah, the press gets stuff about guns so wrong, it wouldn't surprise me if they confused a TACTICAL VEST with a "BULLETPROOF VEST", either.

The press probably uses this to identify guns.

Yeah. I was watching Fox News yesterday and they had some psychologist on who said "No normal person buys four or five guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition. Normal people just don't do that." This statement was not questioned and was responded to with a "Yeah". This was the first time I have ever yelled at Fox News and changed the channel.
Funny... That was what I just posted about a second before your post.

Obviously, you're not normal!

But then, if that were the standard, probably none of us on this forum would be normal.

I also saw where the 6,000 rounds of ammo he supposedly had in his apartment was termed "mind boggling" by the media. Let them come boggle their minds at my ammo stash.

There's a new outdoor range that just opened in Anna. It's a private range and will not be open to the general public, so to shoot there you MUST purchase a membership, but when you go you'll reserve an entire bay. You can rapid fire, draw from the holster, and shoot anything you want (including shotgun) but they are only 50 yard bays right now. They will be building a 100 yard bay in the future. The guy that owns it used to own the Collin County gun range.

True. This, to me, means if I'm in Theater 7 and someone starts shooting people in Theater 8, I'm not going to go running into Theater 8 and engage the guy. But if I'm in Theater 8 and someone opens fire at people randomly in Theater 8, I will probably return that fire if I get a chance and a clear shot.

I'd be unable to look myself in the mirror if I fled while people were getting killed from the place I fled from when I may have been able to prevent at least a few deaths.

EDIT: This guy was apparently wearing a bullet proof vest and a kevlar helmet. Returning fire would likely not have accomplished much unless you got a very lucky shot.

Was talking about this with my fiancee this morning, wondering if a CHL would have been able to prevent it. Then I thought that the theatre probably has the "gun buster" signs as many do even here in Texas, and I think those have force of law in Colorado. Therefore, a CHL would have been prevented from carrying.

Not only that, upon further thinking, I'm not sure I would want to be at the scene of a mass shooting with a gun in my hand when the police burst through the door.
