As promised, we just came across northern NM from Shiprock to Angel Fire down to Las Vegas and out Tucumcari. If it was me, I'd be lookin' in the Chama area. Angel Fire, Eagle's Nest, Red River are too touristy to suit me. Taos is a lot too touristy and artsy.
The aspens out of Chama up across the mountains and almost into Taos were blindingly beautiful! Good luck in your search.

We'll be coming back through that area and Cimmaron Canyon in the next week or so. We'll keep an eye out for bargain property.
