Me too. A couple of days in Temple Square this past September was a most enlightening and uplifting experience.TAM wrote, among other things:
...I've pretty much decided that I'm going to vote for Romney in both the primary and the general, for the above reasons.

I was wonderin' the same thing.sjfcontrol wrote:To be clear -- are you calling seniors "freeloaders"?bizarrenormality wrote:That's why it's so tough fixing the problem. The people who pay little or no taxes outnumber the people paying the bills, and the freeloaders will fight tooth and nail to avoid paying their fair share.AEA wrote:Only problem with the flat tax scheme is that it will hit Seniors who are already on a fixed income (most less than enough to pay any tax at all now). Unless there is a minimum (as now) to pay any tax at all, thereby continuing no tax at all for most Seniors, it will not be received favorably by Seniors who are a large voting group.

Right! I endorsed John Huntsman and we all know how that turned out.The Annoyed Man wrote:Well, Newt's candidacy has just been sunk......

Politico.comThat's all I can do is laugh. The Republican primary has become a joke.Word started leaking out in Las Vegas earlier that Donald Trump's "major announcement" is to back Newt Gingrich, and sources are confirming it to POLITICO.
The announcement is expected to come at an 11:30 a.m. press conference tomorrow that The Donald is holding.

Re: I'm calling it: Gingrich/Rice in 2012
I and many others were forced to pay into Social Security and Medicare for about twice as many years as you've been alive, Bucko. What we Seniors get now is not an entitlement it is a poor return on investments.74novaman wrote:Don't make this a generational thing.
There are producers and moochers. Age doesn't matter.
Plenty of senior citizens who will fall all over themselves to vote for Obama if he tells them the Republicans want to take away their social security and medicare.
There are also a lot of people in the younger generation who have done their time in Afghanistan or Iraq, or work very hard to NOT depend on anyone. I have friends that have died over there. Yes, the WW2 generation made some truly humbling sacrifices. But don't discount what the under 30 crowd has done since the War on Terror began.
Laying the "gimme" mentality at the feet of us youngsters is just flat out wrong and frankly, insulting.
The entitlement society was first established by FDR. Then our parents generation voted in LBJ who declared war on poverty and created even more entitlements. So don't act like ours is the first generation to have lousy parasites. Far from it.
An entitlement is the car that some parents give their kids and room and board and college tuition and clothes, etc., etc. Your parents may have voted in LBJ. My parents (RIP) worked and voted long before your parents were born.
Speaking of Afghanistan and Iraq, where and when did you serve?

We and the GOP, absolutely must stop the infighting and other {stuff} and stop it soon. Otherwise, it will be another four years of Big Mammou and the current POTUS and his lackeys.
If this means Ron Paul must man up and step aside, so be it. We'll see Ron Paul's true colors as well as those of the other contenders after the Florida CJ. Enough is enough!

I regretfully agree with your treatise and I surely hope that your prediction does not come to pass.RockingRook wrote:I do not think it was McCain's time and that is why the Republicans put him up. I think he was a good choice.
He ran a really stupid campaign.
I will say it was Obama's turn!! When he gave the keynote speech in the Dem. convention a few years
before his oratory skills did create a stir. I heard many say then that he would be the first Black Prez. back
then.
As luck would have it he ran in 2008 and won. Why did he win? His oratory skills coupled with his promises.
Promises to change America, promises to give people this and that. Now that resonated very well with the
"Gimme Generation". He mobilized the youth vote [most of ho never read the papers or watched the news],
my adult kids as an example. He won about 93% of the Black vote. He won the Hispanic vote. So now we have
him in there destroying the country, as he promised to do. "I will fundamentally change America". He has and
will finish the job when he gets re-elected. The Republicans are cutting each other to ribbons and the Dems are laughing.
Who will the reps put out there? Ron Paul may win Texas but not much of anything else. I hope he does not run
as a third party candidate. That will surely spell doom!! How about rick Perry? At first he sounded good but went
downhill fast. How about Gingrich? Probably the smartest individual this country has in politics but he scares the heck
out of many voters and wil never be elected. Who is left, Romney?
Obama wins a second term!!

Re: I'm calling it: Gingrich/Rice in 2012
It disgustingly clear that the lamestream media ( to TAM) appears to desperately want the current POTUS to be re-elected.
Why is that? Is it that, or is it because the Republican infighting is sensationalist news and the people will feed on sensationalism and/or bad news and TV audiences mean TV ratings which means TV sponsors. I think I've just answered my own question. It's not about who wins or loses, it's about the media doing it for money and we have a name for those who would prostitute themselves for money, don't we?
That said, the GOP had better start getting their stuff together PDQ and settle on a candidate and an agenda that the responsible American voters can relate to and embrace or their will be another four years of living under the rule of the current POTUS and his lackeys. There is much more than just a POTUS election at stake here, ladies and gentlemen. We must support the Republican candidate, even if he is not our first choice. To do otherwise is a vote for the current POTUS.
{FWIW, I first voted in 1964. I've never been more concerned about my country's future than I am now. Unlike many of y'all, I ain't no spring chicken. Many of you will have to live with the consequences of this upcoming election a long time. Good luck and God bless}

I am afraid, very afraid that all you say above is true...woe is us.The Annoyed Man wrote:I don't think that explains why Romney has maintained his steady lead over the others in the primaries. All those folks who are trying to "out-conservative" one another are losing to Romney so far.Ashlar wrote:Huntsman was too sane and rational. Not enough fire-breathing.
Face it, the republican primaries are about 'How far ultra-conservative can you go..' and then the nominee has to course-correct himself for the general election to appeal to the rest of the country.
The problem is that this contest to outdo one another has become a distraction, and the candidates are really chewing one another up. They are acting out a caricature of conservatism, not the real thing. This is the most virulent republican primary that I can recall, and democrats are loving it. Our guys are spending all their energies on character assassination of one another, and Obama is getting off scott free. Every single primary candidate ought to be refusing to engage in this crap, and instead focus all of their energies on exposing the fraud, moral bankruptcy, economic ignorance, and mendacity of this this administration.
If they don't stop it, we're going to lose the election and the future existence of this country to Obama's promise to remake it into something unrecognizable as American.
