Re: Open Carry In The News
Where I'd really like to see the concealed carry law extended to is other weapons. I believe that in Kentucky if you have a CHL you can also carry a swordcane, big ol' Bowie knife, or other types of weapons that may be concealed. Texas trusts me to carry as many handguns and as much ammo as I can fit under my jacekt and into my pants, but doesn't trust me to carry a gentleman's swordcane or a knife with a blade longer than 5" or so.

Re: Open Carry In The News
Let's take your strict 2A OC support argument and make it a 1A position.HerbM wrote:Choice is good. Gun control is bad.
ALL gun control is bad.
Choice is good. All control of free speech or religion is bad.
So Herb, when your neighbor starts calling his flock to morning prayers at 6am using a 125db loudspeaker, in a language you don't understand, you will be as strong a supporter of him as well, yes? Just because we don't agree with him, doesn't mean we have any right to prevent his free exercise of speech or religion. Just because some may be offended by the morning (and four other daily) prayer calls doesn't mean anyone has the right to stop them, in fact, it means the neighbor should become even more adamant about flaunting his rights, correct?
Or do you find that the different items in the BoR are not equal in importance?

Re: Open Carry In The News
Question for the proponents of OC. Why don't you open carry your long guns today? Think of the deterrent value if 4 of you are sitting in the park or the Dairy Queen with your Remington 870s. Throw in maybe an M4 into the mix just for a little variety. This is legal, so long as the DQ manager has no issue with it and the park is public property. Why aren't you doing this sort of thing today if OC is such a great idea and an ideal exercise of your 2A rights?

No need to embellish, Herb, by adding things I didn't say.HerbM wrote:<snip> no body needs a gun<snip>
So are the NFA Class 3 laws also infringing on our rights? Is there someplace where a line may be drawn? Maybe I should be allowed to carry some Sarin spray instead of pepper spray because it's more effective?HerbM wrote:There are precisely NO gun control laws which can be shown to do ANY good. NONE. Not even NICS/Brady background checks.
Even CHL laws are gun control and we submit to them until we can restore our freedoms -- we should never be PROUD of such submission. There are NO significant problems from the law-abiding folks anywhere. And the criminals will always do what they will do.

Re: Open Carry In The News
Much of the argument for OC seems to be that if you can carry concealed that you should be able to carry open.
I fail to see the purpose of OC other than being macho or trying to make a political statement. I do not see it as enhancing security. If you're doing it in your place of business, then the BGs know who to take out first.
Let's see if we can come up with a parallel argument: Men are allowed to walk around without shirts, so it should be okay for women to walk around without shirts too. Now while many of us may find this to be a terrific idea, it may not be unreasonable to presume that this could precipitate disruptive behavior.
