Just to stay on topic, I didn't see any firearm signs at the Frys in Austin.

Now for checking receipts:

Also, I have no problems w/ some guy (usually 20-30 year olds doing the checking at this Frys) checking my receipt at Fry's. I just hand him the receipt and open my bag. Each check takes just a second or two. I've never lined up to show them my receipt though, and they never asked me to stop when there's a line.

What I really hate is Costco receipt checking. Now there's a store that's strict about it... and worse, everybody has carts full of stuff.

If you think about it, in some way, the receipt checking may be saving you money... Assuming the store has to pay the checker some wage, the savings to the store is probably > his wage, and hopefully some parts of it gets passed to you (for your slight delay by the checker).
