Re: The bullet trap???

A word about the lead bullets. I can see why they want to limit lead bullets. The ventilation there may not be capable of removing a lot of lead from the air. They told me not to take my bottled water into the range area. I thought it was due to them worrying about someone spilling food. Nope. They told me it is because their is enough lead in the air that food and drinks will absorb it. I can only imagine how thick it would get if lead bullets are being fired.

MojoTexas wrote:I just bought my new Springfield XD-M in .40 S&W from the Bullet Trap this past Tuesday. I like the fact that they are a pretty decent gun store, in addition to being a range. I shopped around and their price for the XD-M was very reasonable, especially when you consider the discount you get from being a member. Their price for the XD-M was about $100 cheaper than Academy. Also, I agree about the staff being great. Some gun ranges are full of wanna-be Rambo types, but I've found the staff at the Bullet Trap to be very down-to-earth and knowledgeable.

Anyway, I bought my pistol during the day, but I had my infant son with me so I could not immediately "break it in". However, I went back that night about 7:30 pm and had no problem getting a lane right away.

(I'm really loving the new XD-M by the way! Shoots like a dream, easy to clean, and a lot of gun for your money!)

Congrats on the new gun :thumbs2: . I bought my Kimber from them last week. I could have saved maybe 50 bucks buying elsewhere...if anywhere else had the one i wanted...but like you I believe they are a pretty good shop and it is nice to have a range in town to shoot at. I figure I am supporting the local economy with my extra 50 dollars.

The range is not air conditioned. The ventilation system would defeat the A/C and just push the cool air it out the back. They are working on getting the system to push more air in the hopes it will help keep it cooler, but it gets pretty hot there in the summer evenings.

The drawback of pushing too much air downrange is keeping your targets still. I personally always thought that was a plus as it gave me something to blame my bad shots on. "rlol"
Another good reason to hit the place in the mornings. I am always long gone from there by lunch. It probably hasn't had a chance to warm up yet while I am there.

The moving target thing makes for good combat practice... :biggrinjester: .

I was in Plano and met a friend there about a year ago and they didn't have AC. After and hour were were sweating through everything and ready to leave. Nice place but way to hot.

They have AC. It was probably just down at the time.

Target Master in Garland off Jupiter is not as nice as the Bullet Trap, but, you can draw from the hip there!Thumbs up on drawing from the hip! :thumbs2:
The Garland Pistol Shooting Range off Pleasent Valley is a nice Outdoor pistol and riffle range. $10 life time member ship and $10 to shoot. Thumbs up and the riffle range and Outdoor ventilation! :thumbs2:
I have visited all three of these places and I would have to say I agree with the reviews of all three.

Got a membership the same day I purchased my Kimber.

- Knowledgeable and friendly staff
- Nice firearms selection
- Never wait to get a lane (any day)
- Shoot until my ammo runs out

Highly recommended. We need to get together and all go one weekend.
I get the impression there are quite a few of us living in this area. I have lived in Plano for 34 years. I wouldn't mind getting together with some fellow CHL holders/gun owners. I would probably drive the long time CHL holders crazy with questions...LOL. I don't know if Bullet trap is a good place to meet up though. At least not on weekends. Every time I have been there on weekends the place was wall to wall people. The atmosphere seemed hectic. I usually go there on weekdays. Most of the time early morning.

I wouldn't even want to do that. A shot that bullseyes a 25-yard target will be a couple inches low at 100 and can be up to a foot low at 200. Even if the 25-yard target is the apparent size of a rifle target at 100 yards, it isn't at the right spot along the ballistic path.
I agree. It is only good as a desperate last resort.

melkor41 wrote:The FMJ ban at GPSR is on RIFLE ONLY, not handguns.
That is correct. I probably should have specified that. Been going to ranges for so long I figured everyone would know it was for rifle only. I never heard of any place banning FMJ pistol rounds....and pray I don't...LOL.
melkor41 wrote:Many indoor ranges also ban FMJ on rifle as it will shoot right through the target holders, I do not know if BT does or not.

Re: The bullet trap???

davefrmmrfy wrote:I fully intend to sign up for a BulletTrap membership probably mid June for all the reasons mentioned above. If you are looking for an alternative second choice, Garland Public Shooting Range is an outdoor range basically at the end of hwy 190 (George Bush Tollway). Cost is a one time $10 sign up and then $10 per visit. They do have a one second rule and no holster work, but the price is right.
They also have a FMJ ban. Many years ago they would allow FMJ. But there were no houses close by. As urban sprawl encroaches, we will see more and more restrictions. With the 1 second rule, bump firing the AK is probably out of the question... "rlol" .

Re: The bullet trap???

Been shooting there for quite a while. Went by there Sunday to window shop hand guns and take a look at the completed renovations. Holy Cow...the parking lot was packed! I will get by there during the day when they are not so busy. It's good to hear they have improved the lightning.
